Personally, I think "time stop" would be nice.
Although "gate" would be a close second

Hmmm, on second thought. I've finally managed to get my six-year-old off to bed. So I'm thinking sleep/command/stun etc (although preferably an improved version that lasted eight hours minimum)

Why is Time Stop so popular? Its duration is so limited that you really couldn't do much. Invisibility, all sorts of healing and summoning spells, Shapechange, Domination and many others would be more useful.
Now if Time Stop could work for a day or two, it would be a terrific way to play BGII obsessively *and* be a functioning human being...
One other suggestion: Polymorph Other. That would be a lot of fun.

The problem with shapechanging spells is what you can change into. It wouldn't be too usefull to become an ooze or an ogre in reallife, not unless you were a lawyer in the first instance, or a teacher in the second. And domination spells don't last very long--what do you do when your chosen victim snaps out of it?
But TimeStop could be very effective if you were getting pulled over by a cop, or wanted to make a little withdrawal from a bank without worrying about such niggling matters as your own account. Larceny? Sure! This is all nonsense, in any case.

To the Righteous belong the fruits of violent victory. The rest of us will have to settle for warm friends, warm lovers, and a wink from a quietly supportive universe.
Who wants to be ooze? With Shapechange I could be a Mind Flayer and suck people's brains out. Though turning people into squirrels would be fun too. How can I ever decide.Originally posted by fable:

For practical use, healing spells definitely have to take the prize. Purely apart from their utility, people would pay literally any price for a single Resurrection.
This is NOT all nonsense. I AM going to travel the planes and acquire the powers of a high level preist/mage and return to Earth after a few centuries to gloat over the graves of fools like you who refuse to see the obvious TRUTH of the AD&D vision.

Seriously i would love to smite a court house - watch all the lawyers curl up and die while everyone else just stands their laughing
but i think for utaliterian aspect - improved invisibility or ressurection

They say to truly understand reality one must learn to think in Seven Dimensions
Understand there is no chaos - Only a pattern to large for your mind to grasp

I think that resurrection is a good idea and also a great way to earn a few x-tra dollars.Originally posted by moriveth:

Ex.
Moriveth's resurrection -
"Are you in decay? Come moriveth's if you have enough money to pay. We guarantee full satisfaction or you will get one free resurrection"
3 million dollars wouldn't be too much.
improved invis.
well this one is obvious-steal with 100% stealth and mug old ladys. good money as well.
some of my favorites: "Domination" (starting with the president for world domination and then Carmen Elecktra for... )
"Cure Disease" AIDS, canser ect. one could become Jesus nr.2!
"Protection From Evil, 10' Radius" does any one have a Mother in-law?
"Conjure Fire Elemental"....I don't know but it is a cool party-trick
