IS BALDURS GATE 2 WORTH BUYING?

Post by Kessen »

I have played diablo 2 and didnt like it that much. I like rpgs though but diablo 2 was a small game and the monsters sucked to fight...They were always alot weaker then you. Now on to Baldurs Gate II, how god is this game. The skill cap doesnt seem that high, 17 for a paladin? Please tell me about the skill cap. Also why cant you run in this game? I saw the reviews and itgot good ratings but i would rather hear it from the fans what they think about the game. So everyone who looks at this post please respond. Cause Saturday i am going to buy two games, Black&White and maybe this game.
Thanx

Yes, yes definitely!!! BG2 is perhaps the finest RPG/Dungeons and Dragons game out there. One warning though, be prepared for it to overtake your life.

Asking this board if the game is worth buying is sort of like asking the Pope if you should become a Catholic, isn't it? I mean, who is going to say no? BGII is a fine game and well worth playing once, anyway...although it is not my favorite RPG.

Your reply begs the question... which is your favourite?

I ask as I am looking for the next game purchase myself.

Ok this is my answer for your question :

I was playing Diablo 2 on month

and when I purchased BG2 I was playing it something about 3 months + now I'm making some add-ons and waiting for ToB.

So finally I assume that I will play that game much more than Diablo (I like the music from this game , however I plan to make them accesible in BG2 for some dungeon/wild locations(it is easy).

BG2 RULES ! :D :D

What sets BG2 apart for me is the way its party-based NPCs step out of the background to indicate their own agendas. You'll find that some of them have quests they insist your fulfill; either that, or they'll leave. Others will attempt to have romances with you. Some will get into fights over time, and demand you make choices about who stays in your party; some will even attack and kill one another.

This makes it a little like the original Jagged Alliance, with its mercs who would argue and kill one another, or had odd quirks that might show up under battle. (One merc I recall who was a great sharpshooter...but if he missed, he'd refuse to move when you clicked on him, until he got his target.)

There are plenty of other things to enjoy in the game, but that's probably my favorite point about it.

YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES!!!!!!! :D :D :D

You cant compare diablo2 with BGII. diablo2 is an action rpg: hack and slash all the time. If you want the best role playing game for the pc, BUY BGII!!!!

Well I think that you know what kind of answer you are gonna get when you ask a question like that in a BG2 forum. All here are more or less BG fanatics so of course you will be strongly recommended to buy it.
Looking a bit objective on it, this is one of the best RPG (I have a feeling until never winter nights) D2 was also a great game in my opinion but it is much more hack and slash than BG2.
If you but it and you like RPG you will not be disappointed.

Have never understood, BTW, why Diablo is proclaimed as RPG. Then the Doom also goes.

You'll have to trust us, in AD&D level 17 for a Paladin is massive :)

BG2 is most definately worth it. It's huge, has a deep story, reat character interaction, spectacular fights, vast numbers of items and spells........

It's possibly the best game I have ever played on a computer. Can't wait for the expansion :)

Revenue! They knew they had the action market sewn up, so they decided to market it as an "action rpg" to try and get a slice of a bigger pie. What gets me is the number of so-called reviewers who mindlessly jumped on the bandwagon. :(

No Baldur's Gate II is not worth buying...if you think food isn't worth buying, if you think toilet paper isn't worth buying, if you think an ice cream cone on a hot summers day isn't worth buying, if you think electricity isn't worth buying...hmm..oops got carried away...anyway you should get the point ;) that stuff is a necessity and so is Baldur's Gate II...remember the characters don't have to eat, but you do...and that's happen to me...i play until I'm passed out on the floor from hunger.

You fool, there is a warning about that in the saving/loading screens. :D
Anyway, let me put this way.
Diablo II is a linear game, whatever you do, whatever the class you play, Diablo is always the same, must do the same quests.
Diablo II have weaker monsters and likes to throw about 100 against the player, after some time, it just get boring..
Baldur´s Gate is a lot diferent, its have a more complex world, the monsters are few but far more dangerouse.
Diablo is a selfproclaimed RPG but its a action game with some RPG elements.
BG is a RPG.
- Waterdeep city constrution.

- Shadowdale low level adventure module.

- Rashmare /Thay high level adventure module.

If you want a game that you can't stop playing....yes it is worth buying. And the xp cap....well, you shouldn't have to worry about being too overpowering . But the game is actually very balanced
