Eldoth and Skie Worth It?

Post by Skuld »

I'm thinkin about starting a new game taking a few NPC's I haven't taken before, and Eldoth and Skie happen to qualify. So far I'm thinking PC Cleric, Sharteel, Xan(just because I've never taken him all the way), and Alora or Safana (never used Alora before, and never taken her all the way either). But I was thinking about Eldoth and Skie. I could just have Eldoth take Xan's place and Skie take the Thief spot. The thing is I don't want more than 4 party members, because then it gets too cluttered. So any opinions? I'd like to just have my PC, Shar-Teel, Xan and Alora but if there's convincing evidence to persuade me otherwise I'll try the other two.

Eldoth was a lousy bard, in my opinion. I much prefered Garrick in compare. The most I ever did was take Eldoth in my party long enough to get Skie, have Eldoth killed, then refill his position with somebody else. His bard song just never worked very well.

Are they worth it? In terms of power and stats I have to say there are NPC's who are more powerful and useful. Eldoth isn't the best bard ever to walk the streets of Baldur's Gate and Skie isn't the best thief around either - especially since you get her so late in the game.
But they come with nice personalities and an interesting storyline. I very much enjoyed having them in my party. And don't forget to use Eldoth's 'special ability'. He creates poisoned arrows which you can use to disrupt spellcasting. Not the greatest power in the world, but not totally useless either.
By the way, if you take Shar-teel, Eldoth and Skie you'll have a party that sort of leans toward evil. IIRC Xan is neutral-something and Alora is something-good.

I ended up with PC Dwarf Cleric/Fighter, Kivan, Xan, and later on I'll get Alora. Thanks for the input though. I think they gave otherwise undesirable characters cool special abilities to balance them out. Like Tiax has Summon Ghast. How cool is that?

Xan's Lawful Neutral, and Alora is Chaotic Good.
