Shar-Teel got Booted
Shar-Teel got Booted
Well I gave her a try this time, and me being the kinda person who by default plays a good party every time, but had too drop her because she was just an OK Fighter but a superb whiner. Almost up there with Xan. So I dropped her and picked up faithful old Kivan, who I'm always pleased with. So far the party's PC Dwarven Cleric/Fighter, Kivan, and Xan. But as soon as I get to Baldur's Gate I'm picking up Alora because I'll need a Thief later in the game, and I've never tried her before. Anyone got anything good/bad to say about Alora, while I still have the option to go with someone else like Safana?

Have you heard Alora's soundset? It's either the best thing or the worst thing about her, depending on your point of view. That's the main thing that stands out.
She is a better Thief than Safana or Imoen because her Dexterity is 19, she gets Halfling racial bonuses (which on balance are the best), and she has a lucky rabbit's foot that improves her rolls. I wouldn't compare her to Coran or Montaron because they're Fighter/Thieves, but you can safely assume that her thieving skills are better than theirs, as well. Alora's weaknesses are: 1) her Constitution is 12, so she doesn't get any hit point bonuses like Imoen (neither does Safana or Coran); 2) her Strength is only 8, which limits her carrying ability (it's about the same as Imoen's); and 3) she'll be about 6th Level when you meet her, so her hit point rolls won't be that great and her thieving points probably won't be distributed the way you want them. Her Intelligence, Wisdom, and Charisma aren't very high, but those stats don't really matter. It's too bad you can't add her to the party when she's only 1st or 2nd Level so you could develop her the way you want her. You can always use an editor, of course.

Well, I dunno. Valygar could, at least could, have been better lined up... His only problem is he has not enough interactions. And Cernd... well, Cernd is Cernd, lets not destroy the pretty sunny day right??? NEVER got to play a BG2 party with him - only had him beat the druid stronghold and adios muchacho.
Valygar, in the other hand, is a pretty good ranger...
Hm...
I miss Xan's moonblade. And I think that moonblade should be upgraded as he grow in powers.
And Kivan is, IMO, a not very bright character. Used him a lil bit, but... something was missing, and I dropped him soon enough. My BG party is pretty standard: Me, Jaheira, Khalid, Xan, Minsc and Immy (I slay Dinaheir and get Xan), or Me, Immy, Xzar, Montaron, Xan and Edwin. Evil give me a lot of extra work, cause of all mages team, so I prefer goodies.

Flesh to stone ain't permanent, it seems.
[QUOTE=Coot]Mumble mumble Eldoth & Skie mumble...

It's funny how forgettable those two characters are.
For what it's worth, Skie's stats and abilities are comparable to Imoen's (which makes Skie a little less talented than Alora in the thieving department), and Skie's soundset is an, uh, interesting alternative.
I guess the main drawback is that you have to let Eldoth into your party and undertake his quest before Skie will join you. That's a long time to keep a mediocre (and obnoxious) Bard in your party. But as others have suggested, you can kill Eldoth after you find Skie, if you wish.

Well Xan and Kivan are my two favorite NPCs in BG so it's only fitting that when I start up a new game after a hiatus that I use them. And yea, it is a shame that JJ isn't in BG because he's my fav from BGII. And when you think of Kivan's personality think Dirty Harry. Now about the Moonblade I think I just may upgrade maybe like every 5 levels or something, any suggestions on what to do? And it still pisses me off to this day that the flaming sword animation was left out of BGII. Can't win 'em all. And I'm pretty much running through the main story so I can get Alora with enough quests left to get her the way I want her before I do Durlag's Tower and such.
