Help again - I've done everything in level one of the Ice Palace I think - I am trying to go down the stairs to level two but the door is locked so got one of my party to go to Lysara's dais and do the northwest/southwest thing as in the walkthrough but the rest of them back at the door still find it locked - what am I doing wrong?
First off all, you cannot have done everything on lvl1 if you have not been to lvl2. For example, you connot have helped the white abishai without entering a certain room on lvl2.
As for your problem, there are 2 ways to get to lvl2, one is by entering a locked door guarded by a buch of ice trolls. This door is NOT related to the dais, you just need to lock pick it or bash it.
The other way is to use the painting with the stairs, but you need to say the correct sentence, i forgot wich one, just try them all.
