what wil better suit this party? need your opinion and tips

Post by Alson »

I've played SoA for a few times with most NPC's, and i just got ToB and i want to play it with a custom 4 player party. im planning on this party:
1) A Ranger/Cleric (half-elf, Multiclass, CG) - my fav class. he'll do most of the fighting and he's my cleric. Profs in: flails (FoA and DoE), War hammers (CF), maces and 2 weapon style,
2) A Fighter/Thief (halfling, Multiclass, NG) - a very vestaile class. She can fight well, and i've been told she rulz with ToB abilities. Profs in: 2 handed sword (carsomyr with use any item), QS (staff of striking --> ram) for backstab, and crossbow for firetooth, and 2 handed weapon style.
3) A Sorceress (elf, LN) - my main spellcaster.

So my question is about the forth char. I want somebody who can cast spells and fight, and I want someone HIGHLY stylish .. here's were i need help:
What will be better for this party: a stylish Blade, or a devastating multi Fighter/Mage? (Both armed with 2 long swords)
And i will like to hear tips about how to use the selected char.

Thanx in advance - Alson

I would think you'd want another cleric- you only have half a cleric for four members.

But given the choices you have put before us, I'd say a fighter/mage, although,I think that Duel classed is better. I think that Bards are the worst class available.

The problem with fighter/mage is that from my experience at least, you won't be fully utilizing(sp) one of your classes, cause in order to be a good fighter you need armor, which means you can't cast spells, and to be a good mage you will need to be at a distance from the fighting.

Better a Kansai/mage - cause a kensai gets AC bonuses without being able to use armor - which means he could use both classes equaly.

Go with Fighter/Mage , multiclass.
There is some really cool armor a F/M can wear. Sounds like a really good party.
Have Fun. :D

Bard - Mebbe a Skald. His high level bard song is fairly powerful, he makes a good backup spell caster, he can fight in a pinch, and he gets a few cool magic items nobody else can use.

Bards are weak overall because they don't specialize in anything, but I disagree with Morlock about being the worst class. I don't think there is a "worst" class, though for the power-gamer they may certainly be a "least powerful" class.

What do you want - statistically powerful, or fun to play? Follow your heart.

Monks are always fun for versatility..

But I would have to go with a bard really. I assume you use your sorc for offensive spelling, and with the imp. Bard song ability, your bard can do some serious buffing. I like blades and skalds, but high levels jester (I've heard) can confuse most average enemies with their songs. Try something new!!

Haer'dalis has got to be the most stylish npc in the game so go with blade. The blade will help your summons alot in ToB and can fight really well and has a very useful remove magic spell level and don't forget high lore and high pickpocket. What more do you want. A blade will round off your party really well.

Id go with an undead hunter, for the following reasons.

1. Someone to use the good 2handed weapons available.

2. Immune to lvl drain.
3. Additional cleric spells.
4. Stylin baby.
5. Make good use of all the really good plate out there.

i'd go with a fighter/cleric or a paladin. paladin have lay of hands and can prof in longs sword while dual wielding them. they have that fighter instinct and have some pretty great spells in times of emergencies.

go get aerie, or create a cleric mage. incredible class, tripple chain implosions will drop a dragon in its tracks if you prep.

you got good coverage, except in the magic department. sorc is not really a mage, she is a pure blaster and buff spell caster.

cleric mage is ultimate in cheese spell casters. with high wis and int, you will find so many things you wont know what hit you get cleric ranger a str item and many slots on righteous magic. will add to str and double your hit damage!!!

buff using
draw on holy might, at low levels, at high righteous magic will inc str up to 25!!!!
righteous magic for whacking and iron skin and possibly aura of death and globe for more sheer evil!!!

any fighter cleric combo is just lethal, at high levels r magic is

kai
draw on holy might

all at once!!!
They call me Darth...

Darth Gizka!

Muwahahahahhahahha!!!

I don't know about your games, but in mine, my multiclassed characters don't get to cast 9th level spells until the end of SoA, and at that time dragons are no problem.

Since you already got an offencive spellcaster - or a pure one at least, I'd go for the fighter/mage. You don't need plate, as the 3rd level spell ghost armour is just as good (AC 1) - or almost. But with a stoneskin and a mirrorimage this class won't be hit often. And the fighter/mage can fight very well also.
(PS: in time you get a chaincontingency Implosion with your mage/cleric, this character can have a lot of Greater Whirlwinds and timestop.)
Besides, I've always thought Elves to be the most "stylish" race...

I’ve decided what I’m going to do.
I’ll make this party:
1) Alson – Ranger/Cleric (cleric spells like Draw Upon Holy Might and Rightous Magic and Ironskins will make him really mean…). All melee, all day.
2) Jenia – Fighter/Thief. With 19 DEX (halfling) and 19 STR (belt) she’s one mean sniper! she will melee or range attack as needed.
3) Agnasia – Sorceress. she's just an artillery (sp?) of spells. a pure blaster.
4) Hear’Dalis – Blade. He’s just COOL. He’ll add flavour and style to my party, as well as fighting (dual weild, maybe with that very cheesy tactic of yours sometimes) and casting some spells (tensers in contigency is tempting)
5) Aerie – Cleric/Mage. Cleric side for tons of buffing, mage side for helping my sorceress. Very interesting sequencers and triggers, as well as being my romance (some competition with heardalis seems funny).

What do you say?
Any tips about it? any tactics (not TOO cheesy :-) ?

PS
I have ToB.
