argh, help after killing demi-lich

Post by durga »

just in case anyone hasn't done the golden skull quest, I'll give you some space so you don't have to see any spoiler info--

my first time asking for help---
ok, so I've had this happen twice and it's really frustrating. Here's the deal: I succeed in petrifying the demi-lich with the wand of wonder and only my protagonist (sorceress) and Jan are left un-imprisioned. I cast freedom, and everyone else in my party is freed, demi-lich is dead all of a sudden, and I am able to talk to all of my remaining characters to get them to re-join my party EXCEPT Mazzy.

"Mazzy has nothing to say to you"

I can't think of any way to get her to talk to my sorceress. I leave, sleep, come back, same thing. Cast friends, use ring of human influence, same thing. Kill her, try to ressurect, nothing happens.

I have gone back and tried to kill Kangxx while hiding Mazzy with improved invis. in a corner, but THEN I got an immortal first lich, the game got stuck and I simply could NOT kill him, even with Anomen and Keldorn doing >25 dammage over and over, and the lich keeps summoning Effreeti.

Any ideas? I've saved it as a seperate game and gone onto freeing Sulldanessar etc..

thanks! --Durga

I'm wondering if you somehow targeted and attacked her once during the heat of battle. Do that to the nicer NPC party members, and they won't talk to you. The nastier ones will fight back.
To the Righteous belong the fruits of violent victory. The rest of us will have to settle for warm friends, warm lovers, and a wink from a quietly supportive universe.

*spoiler*
Well that is quite a quandry. I have had similar problems but ended up loading and moving on. If it helps at all, I just pickpocketed Kangaxx for the ring with Jan and then I ran-IT WORKED! Since then Ive gone on to win the game. I did not get exp. but i got the ring with no fuss. Cheesy eh? But the fact is it works.

whoooa, what an awesome Jan move, so fitting somehow for the little sneak that he is. I totally forgot about pickpocketing the ring. I may go back and try that one again, since I forgot about finishing Jahira's harper plot and Keldorn's wife plot.

any idea on how to get Mazzy back though?

thanks in advance, -Durga

can't do the cheat keys as it is my husband's work computer (ahem) so no potentially funny download programs allowed on it.

about the pickpocketing option, I'd have to kill the first lich then, and face the demi before thiefing him eh, that's the problem I ran into where I couldn't kill the first lich, hmm..

You can do this in the CLUA of baldur's gate itself, no other program needed (I advice you to d/l shadowkeeper though, you can do a lott with this handy program!), but I can't remember the codes of it...

Yeah, no downloading required to access the debug console in Shadows of Amn. This is just a feature that the programmers use to check stuff out in the program, it's already built in. You have to add a line in the Baldur.ini file, so go into My Computer/Programs/Black Isle/Baldurs Gate II/and find Baldur.ini - it's a little short notepad file.

Just for safety's sake copy it somewhere else before you open it. Open the copy up - The first line you see is "Game Options" (that's been my experience, anyway look for this line). You then add a line reading "Debug Mode=1" under the "Game Options" line. If this all goes OK, copy the altered Baldur.ini file back into Baldurs II, overwriting the original file.

Now when you go into the game again, nothing will be different except you can open up the debug console - you just hit ctrl-space bar and a little window opens up. You can type a lot of things in the window to make stuff happen, like to spawn different monsters, teleport your party around to different areas, create items, add experience or gold, etc. There is a very good list of console codes for BG 1, BG 2, and Icewind Dale which Weasel did at: CLUA CONSOLE

A lot of this stuff is sort of cheating, but sometimes you either want to try something out or fix a problem like the one you're experiencing.

The thing that KensaiRyu mentioned is that you can put the mouse cursor over pretty much any creature in the game and hit ctrl-Q, they will be added into your party, so you can look at their stats and equipment, order them around etc. It's a lot of fun and a very good suggestion of how to fix your problem ;)

(note: you don't have to have the console window open to ctrl-Q something)

Message edited to get link right. Look, Ma, I put a link in my post!!!

Actually when I pickpocketed him with Jan it was immediatly after he was summoned. As soon as I saw the graphic of the skeleton rising from the ground i hit spacebar. This paused the game and gave me time to collect myself from the several REALLY poor battles I had showing little potential-argh. Anyway i simply brought Jan over to the space alone and pickpocketed him as soon as Kangaxx was shown on the screen as an enemy for the first time. Then I ran-everyone was uninjured after the "fight". :D
