Your favorite Long Sword/Short Sword dual wield combo

Post by Quienble »

I'm using a Human Blade dual wielding a long sword and short sword. I know it's not the most damaging weapon combo, but I'm doing it because it's cool. I was wondering what all your favorite Long Sword/Short Sword combos are, or even your favorite Long Sword and Short sword individually.

Ack bad pick short sword IMHO, only one even worthwhile in the whole game and you need to upgrade it... not very easy to get to.

You get a ton of good long swords (more than any other weapon) though non are super good like holy avenger etc...

There is a really good axe that u can get in the end and you get get 2 +3 at the begining...

There are 2 very VERY good hammers in the game (a few more decent once but those 2 stand out by far, don't want to spoil but one need to be put together the other need to be improved.)

I personally don't like maces, they are important but they really lose steam later on.

Frail are nice, since u can wield both frails and morning stars with this prof there are a lot of decent early morning stars and frail (only only one frail) and 2 pretty good ones later on.

Bastard swords becomes very good later on but you get no good one early on.

what else.... Schimtar prof is alright not that nice though, again no really good once... dagger isn't really useful but it works that's all I remember now.

Ummm, I've never been short swords fun, and there aren't many good ones in BG2. Only one I think it might be useful is "Arbane's sword" +2. It's immune to Hold and can cast Haste once a day, and you get it very early in the game.

On the other hand, I like dual wielding two long swords. I change swords depends on the enemies.

Most of the time: Blade of Roses + Flame Tongue/Equaliser

vs. Undead: Daystar + Flame Tongue

I think Flame Tongue is very effective against specific creatures, like Undead (+4), Cold/Fire Creatures (+3), especially you can get it relatively early in the game.

@Drifting Rain: Short Swords aren't really all that bad, especially when RPing your way through the game while duel-wielding. Cause, as we all know, to dual weild two long swords is impossible.

Actually, one short sword available early in SOA (Kundane) is probably better in the off-hand then any other longsword in the game, period. !! Odd but true.

Kundane a +2 short sword (available from the Astral Prison) gives +1 attacks per round, even though it doesn't mention this in the description.

So for undead: Daystar main, Kundane off-hand. The extra attack from Kundane is given to Daystar.

For everything else: Daystar or Blade of Roses or (at end) Blackrazer main and Kundane off-hand.

Using Kundane can give you 5 honest attacks per round (4 with longsword main, 1 with Kundane off hand, assumes maxxed out on dual wielding & proficient in SS and LS). I have checked this repeately and it does work this way. P.S. cast improved haste on yourself for 10 attacks/round for as long as imp. haste lasts. It's like a long-term whirlwind!

This is PLENTY good for SOA. Then use Blackrazer or some other nasty TOB longsword in main and it's PLENTY for TOB as well.

Good luck --

The Equalizer provides some immunities that come in handy when vampire hunting.

I've always thought picking weapon slots based upon what uber weapons you know are in the game is pretty lame. same with dual wielding two weapons no one would ever dual wield. if the game let you I bet some of these guys would be dual wielding halberds or spears or some other ridiculous power gaming concept. I usually pick to dual wield either scimitar or long sword in main hand, dagger or short sword in off. cutthroat is my favorite short sword just because it's evil. favorite long sword would have to be adjatha the drinker, until blackrazor comes along.

My ranger uses Celest fury, and Kachiko's Wakizashi, and my Swashbuckler uses short sword of backstabbing, and Belm, and they are both pretty good combos.
You know, my last owner always said I was sharp and edgy. Heheh. He was such an ass.
