Music in BG2

Post by Mr Sleep »

How many people actually noticed the music, in every review i have read and every time someone says how great BG2 is they go on about the music, am i the only one who thought the music was a little lacking. Icewind was also similarly praised for great music when it was only reasnoable.

I actually think BG's music is better than BG2's (flame alert, flame alert).

i dont really care that much for the music, although i have to agree that it isnt really as good as the reviews say it is.

the best role player music i've ever heard is in final fantasy 7, but the best game music you can find comes in grand theft auto 2

You have a very good point and I am in 100% agreement. The music is average at best (sound effects are good however.)

I like the music in BG 2. While it's not as good as the music from Ultima 9, I still think it adds to the mood. The only track I don't like is the combat music.

BG2's music lacked tension, pace, or even sernity, which are almost essentials for a game that relys on assaulting your senses.

The tension music was best portrayed in Thief, when you entered constantines house, with the kid laughing, i swear that game still creeps me out. Music and tension are intertwined and they could have made a larger effort to stir your gaming with some classsical music or something like that.

Imagine Moonlight Sonata during the romances, that would be excellent.

The music ain't bad, BUT:

- IMHO Icewind Dale has much better music (very good score, actually)

- BG1 was better in the same aspect

Seems like the kind of games I am playing (mostly Turn Based strategy games and some RPGs) has not very good soundtracks...
Cause I think BG1 music is the best I have heard in a game...

for the combat track, i think that some heavy rock would be cool

quite hard to work into the other music though

Here's link if you want to down load the music http://www.baldursgatehaven.com/downloads/index.phtml?page=1&search=&cnt=1&rel_subtype=&sortby=

Yes I liked FF's better. There's also some song by Minsc there too.

Actually I think the music is pretty good....

In BG1 the music added quite nicely to the gameplay but in BG2 you don't really hear it in the game that often....but I like the different tracks.

I've downloaded every piece of Baldur's Gate 2 music from Napster that I could find and it does come to use when not playing.

I listen to the "Druid Grove", "City gates", "Trademeet", "Romance II" and "The Good" tracks when studying and while dreaming of Jaheira I listen to the "Romance I" track over and over again.

The music's crap. I turned it off on day 1.

Still, there's not many games that actually have good *original* music (I mean like the FIFA series has some top tunes, but they're written/sung by "artistes").

The only one that springs to my mind is HOMM2. The music was so good that they made a hack to replace the music in HOMM3 with it.

I'm sorry to disagree with y'all, but I think the music is excellent. Maybe not the combat music, but the location specific music. I love the middle-eastern strains of Waukeen's Parade, and there are some exquisite lute pieces in some of the noble houses. Maybe the issue is one of taste. I happen to love early (medieval and renaissance) music. I buy CDs by David Munroe and the early English Music Consort, the York Waits and Fretwork. If you like that kind of music there is much in BG2 to please. If you like rap maybe you'd be better off with some other game.

I like the muscic, but few of the soundtracks really stand out. In a game going for realism like BGII, perhaps that's all for the better. The one song that really caught me was Romance I. I was romancing Aerie, and it just struck me with its beauty. It suited Aerie perfectly (for a while I thought is WAS Aerie's theme). It intermingled all the innocence and beauty that Aerie represents to me. I know that sounds weird, but I can't describe it any other way.

I think the Fifa idea is not so bad, get a Band to do the music for you.

Maybe Moby or somone of that ilk, imagine BG2 played to tricky and his 'Sleazy Bass' Image

I think they should replace the BG2 music with music from a German 'oompah' band. That would, erm, rock. Image

That reminds me of a porn movie i watched once.

There should be options to what music you like, it would be cool if they gave you the opportunity to insert your own albums into BG2.
