Now that it is out, I plan to secure my copy of ToB within a scant few days, yet I have been forced for the past few months to wrestle with a dilemma that seemingly has no solution. Which class should I go through with first? Through much deliberation, I have narrowed it down to either rogue or mage, yet I cannot choose between the two of them. I have played through BG I with both, and will export them into my new game as soon as it is in my hands. It is for this, however, that I come to you; which class should I choose, and why? For me it makes little difference, but I would hate to resort to such low-brow methods as flipping a coin or some such garbage(I like my choices educated, thanks). Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers,
Dúnadan

I am having a similar dilemma as to which charactor to take in. I started a sorceror and it was great fun to play but I lost everything (computer problems)a week ago. My room mate is waiting for TOB before making a decision because he wants to look over all the high level abilities before making a decision. You might want to wait couple of more days for the expansion to come out if you are in the U.S. before making final decision.
Yin and Yang balance. There is one within the other. No Difference in Reality. What do you experience?

Rogues, rogues... all the way! But not Bards... they suck. Go for a thief class - my prefered one would be a Swashbuckler. They can fight and tank with the best of them, especially when they dual-wield. No backstab damage, but I never use that anyway. Halflings make the best thieves (well, providing your not bothered by 17 strength) but if you want to romance, they may seem somehwat unrealistic. My Swashbuckler was human, but I'd say an elf would be a better choice. But of course, the choice is up to you. Keep in mind that there is only one decent thief in the game that you can keep, and he's half-mage.

The first time I played with a Swasbuckler (as far as the Underdark), and I have to say he was a *feeble* tank. If you do decide to play one, make sure you get the Balderdash patch so you can have weapon specialization for the extra attack. SoA is as buggy as a student flat, and you have to correct bugs all the way through.
Neither thief nor mage are suitable front-line leaders, so you might want to consider dualling from Kensai (most popular) or Berserker (best imo).

Sorcerer, or wild mage, Dunadan. With the wild mage, you get to try out the new class. With the sorcerer, you get to play around with many more copies of those fun higher spells. Just my POV.
