pre-immature concerns about ToB

Post by Aphex »

With Throne of Bhaal about to be released, I was wondering about its lastability.

It offers aproximately 40-50 hours of gameplay, 20 of which take place in this dungeon, Watcher's Keep or something. Since people will be able to play this part of the game even before finishing Shadows of Amn, this probably means that only the rest 20-30 hours will actually develop and complete the plot and the romances.

In other words, the last part of the BG saga will fit in only one chapter, if I'm not mistaken. Isn't this a bit small? Wouldn't it be better if the Watcher's Keep part was adjusted to the main course of the game other than being an interesting (but seperate from the myth's plot) add-in?

Ok, ok we'll have to wait and see about that. I hate being devil's advocate, anyways. I was just wondering...

40-50 hours gameplay is actually a lot for an expansion. Some games do not have 40-50 hours gameplay (anyone played Revenant?). Anyway we'll have to see but i'm sure Bioware won't disappoint seeing this is the conclusion to the Bhaal story.

@Aphex, I wouldn't call it small. Small is Heart of Winter, which Icewind Dale players complained could be finished in an evening, and added just a few dungeons. ToB adds hundreds of spells, skills, items, a new NPC, a new class, and plenty of new dialog, besides the new dungeons. :)
To the Righteous belong the fruits of violent victory. The rest of us will have to settle for warm friends, warm lovers, and a wink from a quietly supportive universe.

I'm just sad the Bhaal story's over. I wanted a Baldur's Gate 3, and maybe a 4 and 5 to go with it. :( :( :(

When are they going to have one about balurian. I would love to fight him and some of the other FR heroes.

Fable and Blackrose, I guess you are both correct... Just like Callimar, I'm a bit sad Baldur's Gate series is drawing at its end, and I would prefer a full sequel instead of an expansion, like 200 more hours of gameplay (I guess this explains all the wining and complaining!). Imagine this, SoA is the only game I didn't want to finish when I first played it. I was begging for one more chapter! So please excuse a greedy, complaining low-life!

Now I don't know why Interplay would release BG3 if it's not related to the bhaal-children storyline and the original characters. Could it be that they're working on an entirely new story taking place somewhere in the Forgotten Realms, in an enviroment similar to BG's? Makes more sense to me.

I'm quite looking forward to BG3. No more discovering more bhaalspawn wherever you go. Bhaal must have been a very busy guy...

Actually i am upset that there is no BG3.
I was hoping for a Final Fantasy type series with BG.
But i hope they have more FR games.

About BG3, one of the reps said that the next game in the series will be fully 3d. That's about it. They didn't even mention a name. It was probably a mistake to even say that.

From all accounts i suspect there will be a BG3. AFAIK Black Isle has the license to publish D&D games for a few more years. Baldurs Gate has become a brand name so even if the new game is not set in the city of Baldurs Gate, the marketing people are sure to call it BG3. I know that some of the Bioware guys didn't want to call Shadows of Amn BG2 because it wasn't set in Baldurs Gate the city but because of brand recognition etc.
