SS of Backstabbing

Post by bootlegcorndogs »

Ok, this may be (and probably is) an incredibly stupid question, but I rarely play thief-type characters (With backstabbing ability, anyway.) so I'm not quite sure about this. What makes the short sword of backstabbing particularly good FOR backstabbing, anyway? About the only especially positive note I can see about it on paper is the speed factor 0, although the kundane short sword has a speed factor of 0 too and a lower weight. How does the speed of the weapon affect backstabs? Or does the short sword of backstabbing have some other especially good quality for backstabs?

looked at it with an item editor and nope, it's just a +3 shortsword with some shining colors and nothing else to it

Thought so...game is certainly lacking in good short swords, isn't it? One would think powerful short swords would be almost as plentiful as powerful long swords, but the only short swords with a respectable bonus on them don't DO anything.

well here it is the Short Sword of backstabbing +3, +3 damage, speed 0, and here it is the Short swoard Cutthroat +4,+4 damage, speed 1. See it, speed factor 0 (ssb) +3 (the only SS in the game) and you can get it before Cutthroat (Cutthroat is only found in Chapter 6), seeing that there are a lot of creatures that can only be hit by a +3 weapon, the SS of B its useless?????

Your script didn't quite make it, and you missed the point anyway. There are plenty of other +3 weapons lying around. Bottom line is, you won't find many people who didn't train long swords and katanas for melee, including thieves. Same goes for bows...anyone using bows is training short for the gesen and the watcher's bow. The game could've used some better cross and long bows, just like it could've used some better melee weapons in categories other than long sword. Sure, the ready answer is "long swords are supposed to be plentiful", but so are short swords. Hell, there are more good katanas then there are good short swords, and katanas were supposed to be ultra rare. Game even went out of its way to tell you that in the proficiency point screen. A nice short sword with some decent peripheral effects wouldn't have been amiss in either of the collector's edition shops, at the very least.

if you want a good short sword or long bow(or just have a weapon changed over to another catagory) i can go ahead and make you one, just let me know what ye want and i'll see what i can do, no super items though please, only trouble i ever seem to run into is entering custom descriptions, you will need the infinity editor standard from

to add it to your computer

At one point I had Mazzy dual-wielding SS of backstabbing and cutthroat. Not a lot of bells and whistles, but she sure did some serious slicing and dicing.
