Code book revisited

Post by Krusader »

Just wanted to share a war story.

I found that you can get the book from Sottilde by bribing her with 100 drakes. This will not only make her give you the code book but from then on she will regard you as a friend. Once I was her friend I got all the info I needed anent the Camonna Tong from her.

I should mention that I was not a member of the Thieves Guild.

PS: My Speechcraft ability sucked, so I was tired of taunting her and not succeeding after like 30 failed taunts. For characters with a wimpy Speechcraft like me it may take more than one attempt to bribe her. The only solution I have for this is to Quick Save the game right before talking to her and reload if bribing her doesn't work, since a failed bribe will lower the sympathy level. I was lucky, my bribe worked right away, something that puzzles me because of my poor Speechcraft.

Hope this helps someone.

Yeah, but although speechcraft skill plays a small part in bribing people, bribing people is eaisier because the game needed a way for people without speechcraft or illusion to get information from people (ie Illunibi and the residents of Gnaar Mok) and it costs the player money, whereas the other speechcraft skills don't, thus giving an advantage to taking speechcraft as a minor or major, or training it up, and lastly, offering somebody 100 drakes is probably an easier sell than trying to intimidate or admire someone.

If you're a member of the thieves guild she won't give you the book period, it's because of te conflict between the organisation that hirde the fighters guild to get the book and the thieves guild. All should become clearer as you ascend through the guilds.

You don't need to finish that quest, or do anymore quests for Eydis Fire-Eye anyway, the other fighters guild bosses have more thn enough quests to get you to the top of the guild.

In future don't join the thieves guild until you've acquired the book, if you ask to join up as soon as you get the book, but before handing it over to Eydis Fire-Eye then you should have no problems.

Or, just go through the Thieve's Guild prior to joining the Fighter's Guild...
