Please have pitty on a noob. Any help would be appreciated.
Do I need to have NPC mages learn new spells? I'm planning on making TNO a mage- should he hog scrolls etc for himself or should I spread out new spells to the party mages?
I'm not sure how class and levelling work with TNO. Does he gain 1-10 HPs each level in any class as long as it's higher than other classes? (Level 5 fighter, 6 mage, 2 thief playing as fighter gains a level getting no HP, but playing as mage gets 1-10?)
How does weopon specialization/proficiency work? Any tips in weopon choice?
I'm sure there are guides around; I'm trying to avoid too many spoilers.
Thanks!
Some newbie questions
Besides you, only 2 other PC's (playable characters) can learn mage spells. One of them is more of a fighter (and an excellent one I should add) than a mage, thus he can't learn higher level spells. For that reason, I didn't bother to have him learn any spells (unless I had spare ones). The other one is a very good mage, but I didn't let him join my party... he didn't seem like someone I could trust. If you do want this fiery mage to join your party, then I suggest you don't have him learn any powerful spells, in case he will turn against you. As I said, he is not someone to be trusted.

I beg to differ. The fighter/mage can get to use level 9 spells if played right; I wouldn't deprive him of scrolls. Scrolls can often be scarce, but I find it a much better allocation to share the scrolls between the two mages - even if you have only one spell memorized for each mage per spell levle you would effectively double the amount of magic you can cast.
About the other fiery mage you, I'd just say you're paranoyed. There absolutely no reason why you shouldn't include him in the party or why you would want to deprive him of scrolls.

Vicsun, I certainly agree with your assertion that you are an unpleasant person. ~Chanak

For me, it wasn't about paranoia, it was that I found him frighteningly evil, and generally a mental nutcase. I never considered adventuring with someone like that for 2 reasons. First, I was really immersed in the world - and I or my persona would never deal with someone like that. Second, PS:T is written cleverly enough that a character with good and/or lawful leanings could well have had a "meltdown" scene somewhere during the adventure that could be catastrophic.

okay, if you're really gonna roleplay a nice, happy character who likes small children and animals, I can see your point. thing is, you can find some interesting stuff about your past from him. and he'll only try laying the smackdown upon your undying posterior if you're particularly insensitive during a certain dialogue.

Here where the flattering and mendacious swarm
Of lying epitaths their secrets keep,
At last incapable of further harm
The lewd forefathers of the village sleep.

Yeah - that makes sense. I did talk with him extensively to learn about my past, I seem to remember (*shudder*), but I still wasn't about to go to sleep with him crackling away merrily beside me, especially after he revealed what our connection was. Of course, who am I to say anything - I did pal around with a talking skull from the Abyss, after all
