when you say it will not install do you mean you put it on you HD but can not run it....if so if you have direct 8 or above you will need to download the patch for it...this could be the problem it was for me...i have it working on xp ok..
if this is not the i'm sure there are other who can help
Dontheox, can you be a bit more specific about the problem? Is it like Bluestorm said? Or does the the installation get cancelled? Do you get a message?

Ironically, I think I have exactly the same problem as Don. I use a laptop under Windows 2000 Professional, have had BG installed on it for years (no trouble), recently fired it up again and finally finished it. Yesterday I decided to install Tales of the Sword Coast to continue playing.
When I insert the ToSC CD, the installer window appears (with the install/readme/demos/exit buttons). All buttons work fine, but the only thing that happens when I press the install button is that the CDROM drive is revved up a bit and then the window disappears. Presumably the setup program dies for some reason.
I haven't found this problem mentioned in any of the FAQs and I have no idea what causes it.
I have a German version but that shouldn't make any difference (didn't make one for BG either, and I also had German and English versions of Icewind Dale on the machine in the past. No problems).
Thanks for the quick answer. The patch is on the CD, but since I can't even install ToSC, I don't think the patch helps me in any fashion - I can't patch the setup program on the CD after all.
I bought the whole package in one box, but that was around 2001/02, so I cannot rule out that I have an old version. Where would I get hold of a new one? I certainly noticed that there was no explicit mention of W2000 anywhere.
On the other hand, the patch on the CD seems to be the same one that is generally advertised as the ultimate one (1.3.5512) which leads me to believe that the CD as such must be rather late. Since it was part of a combo offer it ertainly postdates the release of the standalone module.
I did find a number of interesting suggestions in the bioware forums (http://www.bioware.com), such as: having to install TOSC as Administrator if one installed BG originally under an old W2K version, and making sure which options are used as otherwise diskspace may exceed some key limit;. Ironically, I then tried to install it a last time without changing anything and it worked. (It was a particularly clean restart as the machine had hung itself on shutdown. That may have contributed since I had tried restarting and then immediately installing at least twice before.)
