Darkside

I was playing light side and I was in Korriban and the sith was tortering the sith wanna be's and I dont know what I pressed and I got light side and darkside points gained and then it said something like net side change and ha the dark side sign beside it :S Could anyone please tell me the improtance of this thing if theres is any?

I think if you see the feedback when there is increase in both light and dark sides you can see which one has had a greater effect, but i've never seen that before
