Worth buying?

Post by Thomas77 »

I've read some reviews and seen quite a few screenshots on this game.
The screenshots are impressive and the reviewers were pretty generous as well, but I just wanted to get the opinions of the some of the "grunts" (so to speak). How is the gameplay? Is the storyline good? What would be recommendations for system components (I've found that at times the system requirements listed by the manufacturer and the actual system components needed to play the game satisfactorily, differ.) Overall, is the game worth the $30 that it's going for? :)

Crashing....

I've also heard that the game crashes about every 20-30 minutes.... :(

Morrowind is definitely on of the best games I've played. And it doesn't crash every 20-30 minutes. Once in a while maybe, but not as often as every 20-30 minutes.
I wanted to change my sig, but I can't think of anything to change it to :(

I'm running 125+ player-designed mods on the complete PC version of the game. In more than 30 hours of play, it's crashed three times.

Morrowind is DEFINATELY worth buying. PHENOMENAL game. I can't say enough good things about it. Also, I've never had any problems with it crashing, and I used to play it on a CRAP pc (UPGRADED to 256 RAM) - It's much better on a faster computer, needless to say.
I sincerely wish we could re-consider this plan from a perspective that involved pants.

Id say morrowind is a game worth buying but... after a while (if you try to powerplay) you will become to powerfull and nothing in the game would be worth doing if you get my drift. Also there are some really overpowered items in the game and I would definetly not recommend them so you wreck your game experience like i did... Anyway morrowind is a great game and theres like over 1000 quests to do so i definetly reccomend it. Just after awhile you become to powerful thats all.

Well, it DOES crash often for me. Every 2-3 times I load it, it crashes back to the desktop. I'm not going to lie to you, it DOES get frustrating. But, despite that, I STILL love Morrowind. It's such a good game it's worth it even if it DOES crash every so often. The storyline's great, and there's a lot of freedom to do whatever you want in the world, and best of all the world's hugely customizeable!

It's one of the nicer games I've ever played. The freedom - you can go almost anywhere you want right from the beginning - and the landscapes add to a very enjoyable gaming experience. The storyline is complicated, but in a good way. And last but not least: there are many good mods out there. The two official add-ons (Bloodmoon and Tribunal) were quite enjoyable too.

Sometimes the game can get a bit repetive though. There are many quests of the 'go get that item for me' variety and the fightingsystem is not very imaginitive.

YES! i say buy this game. I was just coming off of kotor and i wanted a new rpg. I came to this forum and posed the same question as you. I have recently unistalled morrowind because of a lack of available playing time but it gave me alot of hours of enjoyment and i will definetly reinstall it once a couple of ods i want come out. The only reason i did uninstall it is because i would play it instead of doing homework. So, YES.

yes the game is worth the paltry 30 odd dollars you will spend on it, and as for the gameplay, i have played my char and in about 40 hours of gameplay it froze a grand total of twice, and both because of the heat making my xbox mess up, and the amount of stuff you can do, just imagine, you step into a world where you can do anything, you want to be evil? lay waste to a bunch of ppl, you want to be good? help out slaves and guide poor wretches you find on the road to more hospitable places, its the best rpg out right now

This game is definatly worth buying. It's huge, interesting, nice to see, fantastic to play. But the crashes-on-reload get irritating after a while, the combat system is rather boring, and overal the game looks to brown. Even red and yellow look brownish in the game. Bethesda should have put some more color in the game imho, like green grass, red flowers, blue water, and not greenbrown grass, redbrown flowers and bluebrown water.

Edit: i bought it in Budget edition for only $7 :)

Sorry if I burst your bubble, but you're really asking the wrong crowd here, y'know. They wouldn't be on this forum unless they already have and love Morrowind, right? (except for the occassional crazy poster who goes on a posting spree, posting 97 new threads with the same title of "MORROWIN SUXXXORZZ!!!111") Obviously, from this crowd, you ask a question like that, you'd always get a positive answer and even if they tell you about the bad stuff, they say it like this: "oh, the game crashes every 3 seconds, and the combat's boring as heck, and you can get megarich at like lvl 5, and the game color's so brown it looks like a chocolate chip, and in the end, most characters can be uberpowerful in all 3 major skills (magic, stealth, AND fighting) but I love the game so so much so BUY IT!" Nobody here is likely to tell you NOT to buy it, so I'd take everything they say with a grain of salt. And heck I'm not excluding me, either.

But I suspect he/she wants to hear the attractions of the game from the people who best know it. That being the case, he has come to the right place.

And we can discuss the negatives, too. At least some of us aren't blind to 'em. NPC interaction, for example: it stinks. In an unmodded game, you get generic responses to a ton of questions from just about everybody. Multiple choice dialog trees are short, uninteresting, and seldom lead to truly distinct branches.

Thanks!

I've read some people say the hand to hand combat sucks, and I've also read that somewhere else. Is it comparable to or better than "Thief"? (the first one).
Oh, and by the way, I be a "he". :)

Yeah the npc interaction is annoying and also you might find that the game has just a few glitches, for instance my guy seems to have a fondness for falling through floors to his death, and when seling high priced items it takes forever to lower the cost to what the merchant can afford(on xbox at least dont know about pc) also when you start out the enemies you fight can sometimes be ridiculously overpowering for your guy and once you get higher you hit a wall where you can defeat anything with hardly a thought, also the loading time sucks

well the game has more potential than almost any other game out there, since you can literally do pretty much anything, also means, that when you know the game and know how it works you can become uber in 2hrs of playtime..

i made a char that was lvl 20 and with sanctuary(how many attacks you avoid in percents) of 108% in 2hrs..

but of course to a first timer the game is certainly enjoyable and intriguing to say atleast..

Alrighty then, but see when you do stuff like that you ruin the game for yourself, because see what makes a game fun is that you have to strive to achieve, and as for you "108% sanct" i tried ans you need you skill at around 98 to make you have even a remote chance of casting it, and even then it was only something like 25%
