Fighter/thief

Post by Brynn »

Hello

I started BG I again with a F/T, and I need a bit of help with that.

#1:
I thought she would do well b/c she'll be strong enough to defend herself but will manage in town as well. But I had to realize that b/c of the thief's armor restriction she cannot wear heavy armor if she wants to hide :( Do you know if I can find or buy armor that decreases the AC significantly but allows her to hide as well?

#2:
Every time she picks a lock and tries to loot a chest the guards come - it doesn't worth it to pay 200 gp, obviously, to save my rep, but if I kill the guards it will decrease by 4/each! What's the advantage of having rouge abilities, then, if she can't hide and steal? :(

#3:
The best weapon I've found so far is a simple 2-handed sword. Do you know where to look for better stuff?

#4:
Where will I meet Drizzt?

Thanks!

1. Armour isn't very important early in BG, and continues to not be untill you do somewhere like Ulcaster. But, Drizzt's +4 chain lets you hide, steal and do traps. Ever think of putting your armour back in your bag when you want to hide?

2. Well, one thing with the guards you can do is tell them to **** themselves, then just walk off as they attack, losing you no rep. Another thing, is to use STEALTH, simply steal, then stealth. - But really, the only reason for being a rogue is; Backstab ability which is so helpfull and owns so much, along with the ability to deal with traps, that would otherwise often kill you. - she can hide and steal.

3. Ok, make it night, go to Beregost, go into thunderhammer's shop, there should be a chest at the top right containing a +1 bastard sword (but unfortunately it doesn't backstab) also, in the Feldpost inn, theres a Composite long bow +1, which is a must early on. However, in Baldur's gate sewers theres a +3 sword of backstabbing. Also, in Durlag's tower (low levels) theres a 2 handed sword +3, and lastly drizzt has 2 +3 swords (1 if your good alignment you get +2 ar)

4. Can't remember where Drizzt is, check the walk through, I think its down 2 and 1 to the left of Beregost, you will need (well if you want to kill him easily) another NPC to lure him, and just follow the walkthrough to kill him.

First, buy the Shadow Armor from Tairum Thunderhammer. It costs about 14000 gold, but it's +3 studded leather (the strongest in the game) with +15 hide in shadows. Then go south of Beregost and kill the three hobgoblins around the SW of the map (they stand together and all have different colors). One of them has the Boots of Stealth, which gives another +35 stealth bonus. I do not know the weapons you chose, but it will most likely be Short or Long Sword. Kill Greywolf in the Nashkel Mines (save Prism or you will miss him!) for a Long Sword +2, or go south of High Hedge and kill the 3 hobgoblin bandits in the centre of the map (they are tougher than they look!) for a Short Sword +2. Alternativly, kill Drizzt using the island-tactic for a Scimitar +5 (+3 if your alignment is evi/neutrall, because the +5 one is good-only) and a Chain Mail +4.

Stealing: try to steal from rooms where there are no people, because the guards won't come if nobody saw you stealing. If you want to steal from a house where people are watching, just open the chest, take your loot, hide in shadows and sneak past the guards. If your HiS check failed, go to the guards, tell them to draw steel and just run past them. They should be gone next time you enter the area.

Thanks for the hints, guys! I'm sure I"'ll try to kill Drizzt if I ever encounter him, he's carrying way too good stuff to spare his life :)

Meow, yes, I did put off the armor when hiding, but it's jsut too tiring to bother with it all the time.
