What is the best spell in your opinion? Also what is the highest hitting spell?

Best spell to me is Levitate..especially if you have a high running speed as well, because when you are in 3rd person it looks like you are freaking out in midair.

The best spell is the spell that you use most frequently for your character configuration and battle strategy. For some people, it's Enchant. For others, one of the attack spells. Or Reflect. Or Levitate, Chameleon, etc.

In short, nearly anything. ;)

Assuming, obviously, that you are excluding custom-made spells, I would say that the most universally "best" spell, for any character type, would be Levitate. As others have said, it's IMPOSSIBLY advantageous from a tactical standpoint, and (coupled with the Boots of Blinding Speed), makes travel so much easier.
I sincerely wish we could re-consider this plan from a perspective that involved pants.

Well if you are including custom spells it would have to be the one i made for killing daedra, it couples fire ice and spark dmg plus soul trap in an area and also the types of weakness for the fire ice and spark dmg, although levitate is probably the one i use the most

Moonshadow for powers (invisibility REALLY helps when you are making a getaway from a dungeon or after a thieving job--really wish I had that in Thief) and Ondusi's open door for spells.

No, we all just sit around, using magic to creatie entire new pacifistic societies based on the joy of hugging bunny rabbits. Ooooh, and don't forget healing Cliff Racers, too. It's great fun. Really. ;)

see i wud use spells for killing but it takes too much magicka to cast those spells to where it is not worth it when u cud just swing a sword a few times...

if i cheat on the other hand it is nice to use custom made spells that just do drain health cuz no one has resistance to that tho sum do to fire frost etc..

My favourite spell is levitate, but open spells are really cool too. There is a nice thing u can do with levitate:make it a 1 point target and cast it on some fast enemy and then u could just shoot him down.

highest hitting... HA! the sky is the limit. coupled with a couple of 10000K willpower and intelligence potions, i have created spells that took out the entire guard room in mournhold. one hit. of course ir required that reflect on self was in there... and no, i havent managed that on the hands of amlexia. CRAZY resist magic there. i think it was...

100 shock, fire, drain health, frost, absorb health, absorb luck, absorb strength, drain strength, weakness to magic, weakness to fire, shock, and frost....
then a lot more stuff. overkill, but defenitely high hitting.

most useful is CE 100pts night eye, no contest.

i use my custom chameleon spell the most

100 chameleon for 10 sec on self.

but by far the greatest spells in the game is mark and recall. their greatness seems to be in the shadows of all those super spells of death, we seem to forget when they have gotten us out of a hairy situation or got our over encumbered ass back to town after raiding a ruin. thank you mark and recall.

or maybe im just lazy....lol

I agree Mark and recall is great, I have not been playing morrowind for a while now (oblivion :) ) but i relay miss recall. Oblivion have fast travel but you need to meet certain requirements to use it (not being over encrumbled for one). Levitation is also one of the spells I used the most, and night eye.
I got Morrowind on Xbox.

Conjuration

I think that the Conjuration spells are of the most useful in the game
for instance- you are fighting Dagoth Ur, if u want to "soak" up his attacks you may want to summon cheap guys like Ancestor Ghost.

Or if ur getting owned by a tough enemy, summoning something like an atronach will turn the tables on the enemy

I got owned by the flame atronach I summoned once.
