P4 HT or Prescott ???

P4 800MHZ 512KB 2.8Gb OR PRESCOTT 800MHZ 1Mb 2.4AGb. Which to choose?

I intend to use MB ASUS P4R800-VM (VIDEO On-board ATI RADEON) and, with AGP slot... 02 DDR 256MB SAMSUMG PC3200 (up to 6.4 rate...)

What to make?

At less than 3GHz you'd be better to go with the Northwood core (P4 800MHZ 512KB 2.8Gb) as the Prescott's longer pipelines actually reduce it's performance in comparison at lower speeds. The Prescott CPU's start to work better at more than 3.4GHz.

HT makes it possible for your processor to do multiple things at at time instead of doing everty calculation 1 by 1. So yes, it's a real advantage in windows and stuff like that, games don't use it.

Processors are ok but I recommend Intel mainboard.

512MB is too small for many 32bit applications. Dungeon Siege online will choke on this level. After experincing problems of out-of-memeory I upgraded to 2GB and haven't had one problem since then. But look at better RAM manufacturers.

The on-board video would be ok now but if you buy a high end nvidia video card you'll get longer usability.

Shop at Fry's if you have one thier prices and inventory is heaven for a techies.
