Poll: Favorite weapon in AD&D CRPG's
What is your favorite weapon in BG1 + 2, IWD or Planescape:Torment?
BG1: Drizzt's Defender
PT: Dak'kons (final) Zerth Blade
IWD: Morningstar +3, 1 extra attack
BG2: Vorpal Sword

I often prefer weapons that I find cool, rather than simply opting for the "best ones". Take for examle the Lilarcor. It certainly is a nice sword, but the comments are absolutely priceless. "...I used to be a Moonblade..." and so on. The blade actually talks about its supposed, and highly unlikely, career!
Also, I like weapons giving the wielder some kind of special abilty that you can put in your strategies. Remember Spiders' Bane combined with the Web spell. A total slaughter!

The Pixie Prick! It's hilarious. You can just imagine some pixie paladin tottering around with this huge 2-handed sword which is no bigger than a cheese knife for humans. Likewise, Jorils dagger in relation to humans!

I had a shortsword in IWD that had a 25% chance to cast cure lt wounds on the wielder with each hit. I'd haste my halfling fighter wielding it and she'd be a self-healing machine.
I still like Daystar best. It has class. I'd been waiting for them to put in a Sunblade (my favorite weapon in PNP ever since Unearthed Arcana), and this is the closest to it.

There is a random +4 2-handed sword in IWD that has 20% chacne to heal 1d20 HP and regenerates when equipped. Awesome! 'Lifegiver' - refreshes the parts other 2-handed swords cannot reach.

Its random but I only ever got it in Maiden Ilmadia's 'house'. Instead of the +4 Hammering 2-H sword. I was p*ssed at first but then thought, hey, hammering doesn't work on Belhifet, healing works on me...
Heh, runty little halfling with a big sword like that. Cute

Halfling chick, no less. She ruled! She was part of a group of us who formed a 4 feet and shorter party. Only Dwarves, Halflings, and gnomes. That was fun.
I can't believe I naver found that sword, though. Finished the game several times. Bummer.

Heh heh. "And so it was the stumpy party made it through the snowy pass with tubes to help them breathe above the drifts... And in the end, Belhifet was banished to his demonic plane for 100 years by the ankle-biters and groin-stabbers of Rail's short heroes..."
LOL.
If you get to know which enemies/chests are random just save before you kill/open them. Or get dalekeeper...

I always assumed Dalekeeper required me to be computer literate. I just play the games.
And back off the halflings. When we break your knees, you aren't much taller than we are, anymore. Besides, my whole party was practically resistant to magic, with saves of 2. Came in handy.

I thought that too, but I tried them the other week and they're dead easy to use. As long as you don't overdo it.
Okay, I see your sensitive to the height issue. Did I read somewhere that dwarves etc. get plussed to combat against giantkin in BG2 or NWN? They can dodge/roll out the way etc.

I read that, for these two games, but haven't noticed the difference. Probably cuz the game only goes to -10 AC, and usually the frontline fighters are around there anyway. What's a -4 bonus when you're already as low as you can go?

That really sucks doesn't it?
I got to the point where I'm optimising my characters at -10. Why have one at -11 and one at -9?

I kept trying to get one past -17, and then realized, what's the point! So all frontliners (grunts?) get -10 or as close to it as possible.
I sure wish they went below -10. Kinda makes shields useless. Except for shield of harmony.

Grunts indeed. Suppose some of it is for frontliners without dex 18. That's a whole 4 points of AC that fighters can do without but can make up for with the kick as armour. With low dex it is still easy to make -10.
Notice how most of the NPC's have high dex? Usually 17.

I'd complain and say, "Give us some NPCs with flaws. Let's be realistic." But, we don't like to make our characters with flaws, so...
But, do grunts need those Dex points elsewhere?

With BG2, I guess your protaganist needs points he can sacrifice in hell etc. (wisdom?).
With multiplayer or IWD you do benefit from high dex (I usually don't scrimp on dex). If you don't constantly re-roll, it is difficult to get even 3 18's (str/con/dex). You could scrimp on dex. Int/wis/cha aren't that useful for frontliners but still, with creatures like flayers and some spells you'd be wise not to minimise them too much.
This is immaterial in 1 player BG2 - there is only your char to scrimp on, most of the rest have high dex.
