Sorcerer spell progression in ToB

Post by prime_dweller »

Hi there,

For the lucky ToB owners:

Could anyone tell me how many lvl 8 and 9 spells a sorc can KNOW and how many he can CAST at lvl 31 in ToB, as opposed to a spec mage?

If anyone could post the entire spell progression tables I'd be even happier, but I'll take whatever I can get :) .

I'm trying to decide between a Wild Mage and a Sorc, and I suspect the Sorc will be able to cast many more high lvl spells per day.

On the other hand, maybe the Project Image cheese will make that advantage less significant...

Thx

At level 31 here are the number of spells a sorcerer know
5/5/5/5/5/5/5/4/4
He can cast...
6/6/6/6/6/6/6/6/6
Specialist Mage...
6/6/6/6/6/6/6/6/5
Hmm...not that much of a difference there :D

Thanks!

The sorcerer's advantage seem to be diluted in the higher levels.

1) With Project Image, any mage can multiply his spells by sacrificing lvl 7 slots.

Using 6x PI means a spec can cast as many spells as a sorcerer in levels 1,2,3,4,5,6,8 and 9, and he can memorize one copy of each spell he/she wants, AND he can change the spell selection anytime.

2) Of course, the sorcerer can do the same without sacrificing lvl 7 slots (Mordekainen's Swords anyone?), except for th selection change.

3) The Wild Mage is a spec without opposition school, and he gets gets a nifty lvl 1 spell: Nahal's Reckless Dweomer.

Consider this: 6 Nahals memorized in lvl 1 = ANY combination of 6 known lvl 1-10 spells IN ADDITION to the normal 5 prepared lvl 9 slots ... Yummie!

If the Mage memorizes the exact spells he will need that day...

None of the levels has more than 4 or so spells you really must have, so the Sorcerer's disadvantage is pretty much nonexistant at the cap... if you choose your spells right.

However, thanks to the save&reload+rest everywhere feature in BG2, the mage does have the exact spells he need. Not saying it's good or bad, just it's the nature of the game. The only place where sorceror shine is when you roleplay no-save no-rest or something.

If it were up to me personally, I would change BG2 to more similar to BG, where you can't rest everywhere easily.

Yeah, that's odd, isn't it? I had to actually go and find a good spot to rest in BG1, but in BG2 you can camp out in the Shade Lord's dungeon all you like.

'tis not right.
