Boots of Blinding Speed ? : Your opinions

Post by dragon wench »

No, this isn't another thread asking the location of the fabled boots, nor is it a query as to how one avoids their blinding effect ;)

There are all kinds of threads on the above issues, but I have not really seen much in the way of discussion regarding the boots themselves.

So, my question is, what do you think of them?

I'm probably bordering on sacrilege here.. but I have to admit, I really don't care that much for the said boots. Although I have played the game for a while now, I'm still wowed by the graphics, and I just don't see the need to race past it all ;) I'd rather just run at a reasonable trot (so I can still check out the way the light plays on the water) and build up my athletics skill

*ducks to avoid flame throwers* :D

Other thoughts?

When you have only two hours to spare each day and have played Thief 3, you start needing those boots just to get anywhere.

After completing 4 fighters guild tasks that involve running around in ashlands with 10 ebony pieces(not the lightest stuff) half way across vvardenfell in a row, one really starts wanting to use those boots..

There's only couple but's with them. they're ugly, and their durability is 50 so if you happen to run into a fight with smth that hits hard, you most likely will lose the boots until the fight is over so you can fix them. But the 200pts speed is too good, especially early on, i hate having like 50speed so when you run, it takes you 10 minutes to get from seyda neen to pelagiad.

Nah, it's less than two minutes.

But two minutes just to go between the nearest two towns in the game? "Walking is good for your health" indeed!

yeah, but running at superhuman speed will get you there faster :p :D

And the boots help you to steal stuff, since you can outrun the guards and everyone else that doesn't fly, so you can just pay it off in thieves guild, one of the most useful items in the game IMO

Pure cheese, as a result. Especially since it's relatively easy to get around their limitation. I drop 'em in the ocean. Imagine one of those stupid slaughterfish will careen by at top speeds one of these days, banging into everything en route. ;)

lol! ;)

Well I am currently playing a thief, and I find it helpful to 'mark' the Thieve's Guild before venturing out on missions to "liberate" individuals of their belongings. That way, if need be, I can instantly teleport back to safety and pay the bounty at the Guild without getting nailed nailed by any guards :p So no boots required :D
The Amulet of Shadows on the hand.... I do find *very* useful.

I also have a house mod that gives me access to much of the island (it came with a decent quest that fits into the Mage Guild story, so not too cheap IMO), and I have the Propylon Index mod which covers off the more remote locations. These along with Mark/Recall, Almsivi and Divine Intervention, seem to negate any need for the boots, at least with my playing style anyway ;)

well of course it depends on one's playing style, i just start running somewhere and look what i run into, for that the boots are really handy, of course one could enchant every piece of stuff with speed to get it to 300 but it's just easier to wear those if you want to explore the old fashion way..

I never use them. I just bought a new graphics card, that (finally!) allowed me to play Morrowind, and I enjoy watching the areas, stars, and sunsets too much to rush past them. And if I need to get somewhere fast, I use Divine/Almsivi Intervention, Mage Guild transportation or that wonderful MultiMark mod that lets you Mark 12 places.

Personally, I've worn them constantly with every character I've created since I learned about them. It's gotten to the point where it takes me less than a half hour from I create a character to having him/her wearing the boots w/o any side effects. Still, every time I play I'm getting closer to ditching them...

First off, they offer no protection & can't take hardly any damage (as some people have mentioned). Second, they "steal" an armor slot, which means I can never wear any other boots in the game. I have yet to don a pair of home-enchanted daedric boots, f ex... Not to mention the other fun footwear available!

However, the speed they provide is very addicting... I'll try with my next character to focus on speed & athletics. With those two stats/ats high you can travel pretty fast... (and a self-enchanted item will also provide a nice speed boost)

I like the boots, on most of my chars i tend to use a short blade, so the boots vastly increase my hittign chance, especially early on, also im always a mage so no more levitating so slow that to rise 2 feet takes 5 min,
Finally running a decent computer!

I don't like them at all. Protection is more important to me than speed.

The boots never really appealed to me either. My character has specialized in speed and athletics while still specializing in heavy armour and long blade. Thanks to these things I've never found the need to run away from any battles. As far as the boots go, maybe I can get some money for them at the museum.

good point i have level 100 light armor and they have i think 16 defence...and to make it worse only 50 durability...but the speed is welcome in my character....

@ Nobleheart you dont get much money at the museum for the boots id just donate them for the piece of trueflame but thats just my opinion

Me: put simply.... No :D

True dat, the boots are most likely in a crate somewhere because i never use them or maybe didn't even bother to acquire them in my current file, as for leaving stuff on the roof...i have many "acquired" houses to keep junk that seems kind of important.
