lol...No one likes Dragonlance anymore!
(as made readily apparent by my incredibly hokey username...ahh, the unseen pains of forcing one's little brother to register you...oops)

If you were just starting out I would tell you to FIRST read the Chronicles trilogy and then the Legends trilogy since it is the sequel to the first trilogy. If you start with other books you may get lost because most if not all of them assume you have a clue about what happened in these first two trilogies. After them though, you can go pretty much anywhere in the series, heh
Actually I have read the Chronicles trilogy and I am about halfway through the 3rd book of the Legends trilogy. After that I may have to figure out how to raise money so I can buy..
The Second Generation
Dragons of Summer Flame
The War of Souls Trilogy
..then it will have to be somewhat random after that. The Dragonlance books have taught me reading is actually exciting.
I tried reading LotR like a year before the movies started being released, but I couldn't get past the 4th page of the first book. I COULD however read "The Hobbit" which was actually pretty nice.
In my 22 years on this earth before I read the Dragonlance books I have completely read..get this..3 novels..and two of them were for school projects!
Then in the last year or so I have read (soon, after this book) 6 books. That is 150% more than in the last 22 years! lol
I stopped reading Dragonlance after 'Dragons of Summer Flames' was released. The idea of the new generation never got me excited, so I stopped reading.
A shame, too. Raistlin was always one of my favorite characters, in any novel/series.
I defently do not like the new generation as much as the classic dragonlance characters but the story must go on
you should read the other stories, like The Raistlin Chronicles..I'm reading the 2nd part to it now
parantis, i was 21 when i started reading them.

I was actually pretty disappointed with the concept of the new generation. I like to know my characters and see them developed. Like Aegis, the last book i read was "Dragons of a summer flame". Its been close to two years since i read those books and now there are over 100 books on the subject. Side quests
or side stories are fun to read, but I would like to see the characters i like move on and do otehr stuff. I personally like Brightblade and Tanis a close second.

The novels of the new age are interesting to read if you've gone through the older ones, to see whos changed, and whos children have turned out how, and things like that. Unfortunately I think the whole basis on the setting that I liked most was destroyed in the new age, I liked the idea of the Towers of High Sorcery and everything like that. Tearing that apart and destroying the powers of mages and clerics into something feeble in comparison seemed to take away from the whole atmosphere of the setting. Good, good books to read though. I've only found a few that were only mildly entertaining out of the two dozen or so I've picked up from the Dragonlance line, which is more than I can say about any other line of books out there.

I tried to read the "War of the Souls" series, but I just couldn't. The whole strength of Dragonalance, in my eyes, was the original "cast". The "newer" ones seem...well, flatter. The best character, peronsally? Raistlin, no question
, but Fizban was always a close second (arrest that tree!)!
I sincerely wish we could re-consider this plan from a perspective that involved pants.
Anybody read any of the stories except for the first 6 books? They any good? Well it seems the war of souls aint that great. Is this genre or world worth getting into after the first 6 books?

Ive read the raistlin chronicles, part 1&2 of the "heroes" series, and book 2 of "meeting of the sextet" serries. I have book 2 in Betrem's guide (remember the great library's aide?) but im still looking for the 1st book
EDIT: Ive liked all of them so far
heroes was really neat cuz it tells about huma, kaz, and some dawrven legends that you hear about in the main series.

Here's a listing of books I remember reading from the link posted down below by CM:
The ones with the * beside them are the ones I either remember fairly well, or remember as being good. As some of those I haven't read in close to 5 years, I'd have to say they were decent for me to remember them. The rest happen to be a blur, I can't recall them really as I happen to go through roughly a novel a day. The Tales series, 20-25, I happened to not like so much, simply because they were short story collections, and short stories simply were too short for me to get interested in them except for a few of the truly good ones.
Emperor of Ansalon I liked quite a bit. It showed you the making of the man who brought together the Dragon Highlords of the Chronicles Series. Interesting story with that one.
I liked the newer ones, simply to see whats changed. For the most part I disliked the changes, but 31-34 were good books IMO.
The story behind Riverwind and Goldmoon, I believe that was Riverwind the Plainsman, was an interesting read. Gave you an insight into Riverwind, who I was always curious about after reading the Chronicles.

I'm reading the books a little out of order
I started with the Twins legends, it was my first "exposure" to Dragonlance novels. I read every consecutive one after that up until Dragons of a Vanished Moon (part 3). Somewhere in bewteen I read the Soulforge (I). I completely missed the Chronicles, which I have just started this week. Weird eh?
I wasn't entirely excited when I saw the Next Generation novel, but I thought I'd try it...couldn't put it down! I love all the "original cast" but I like like the "new" ones too. It really sets up the next trilogy.
I saw Amber & Ashes on the shelves, I'm really excited to read it but I'm reading the Chronicles now.

I was nearing the end of Brothers in Arms today and thought of how powerfull raistlin actually was. He had/has his own magical skills, thte staff of magius, and also the lich from the test(did'nt feel like hunting the name down.) That is a pretty big order
Fistandantulis (the "lich" - was he really a lich, or just altered by magic?)
i've seen him refered to a lich once...if he was really a lich or just the spirit of Fistandantulis projected as a lich, or whatever else, for the test. i have no idea.
