Weapon sizes

Post by venzor »

From Complete Warrior, the maul a 2 handed martial weapon, 1 handed exotic weapon. After doing some research on the 'net, It looks to be about 4' in length.

My character is half-giant (from Exp. Psionics), meaning he can wield a large Maul. I also took the monkey grip feat, giving him a Huge Maul.

Now my question is: How big is a Huge Maul? I know it weighs 80 lbs, but I don't know how big it is.

My DM told me that it is 16 ft tall. But I got to thinking... A Huge Maul does 3d8 points of damage. Seems like something double the height of my character and triple the height of an average human would do much, much more than that. This has led me to believe that the length of the weapon does not double with each increase, but I can not find any rules agreeing or disagreeing. Granted all I have on hand at the moment is a PH and Complete Warrior.

Can anyone shed some enlightenment, with maybe some proof?

Ok, after typing this all out, if it were designed for a huge creature, it would make sense. Huge creatures take up a 15x15ft square, and theoretically (at least to me) a 15x15x15 ft cube. But if that's true, then the proportions don't seem right (16ft maul)

I think, that for each size increase, a multiplier is added to the size. Eg: From medium to large it is double the large weapon's height. From medium to huge, it triples. Medium to gargantuan, quadruple. Etc..

This is just a bunch of disorganized thoughts, so if any clarification is needed, just ask.

After doing some searching through a Monster Manual I was able to get my hands on and doing a little comparing, it looks like my DM was right. A Cloud giant, huge, stands at 18ft tall. 16ft for the Maul would be correct.

So, in summary:
Weapon size doubles when increased in size category
