What is the story of Tales of the Sword Coast? As in summary? I don't understand what purpose this game plays in the BG series. . . Hehe, I just thought I'd throw in a spoiler tag .

It doesnt realy have a story, it jsut adds some side area's with some side quests to the game.
It isnt part of the story like ToB
Just some sidequests right? That's what I thought. When I played through BG back when it was released, I already had BGII when I looked at ToSC. I couldn't figure out why this expansion was created, it had no apparent place in the storyline. Guess I was right . Thanks .
Tales of the Sword Coast is an "expansion pack". It adds new quests to the game which the developers estimate will increase playing time by about 100 hours for the average first-time player (compared to about 200 hours for the original game). It also adds new items to the game, some of which are very nice. I can't remember if any new spells are added. It also raises the experience cap from 89,000 points to 161,000 points. Two or three more levels can make your character a lot more powerful. For game balance, the final battle is changed a little bit to make it more challenging. If you want more out of Baldur's Gate, the expansion pack is a good way to get it.
I think the "time played" figure is meant to refer to how much time it should take you to beat it the first time.
BG1 (played multi with my wife) took about 80 hours. The expansion took closer to 20 hours (but by then, we'd already played BG2, so we had a better idea about exactly how to fight.)
