The Amunartor Avatar has one piece you should get first (temple area under the seweres) - then you should have talken to the blind guy standing near the tomb at sewer level. He would have hooked you up with an agent in the Cult that would have given you acces to some lower levels where you could have recovered the second part of the device.
You should not have taken to Gaal(sp?)(the guard for the Unseeing Eye) or attacked anybody yet.
My advice is reload an ealier game and try again - or move on with other quests.

Xandax, no offense, but your instructions are off a bit, you mixed up a couple of things.
The proper order is:
First you must talk to Gaal. Do not threaten, piss off, or attack Gaal. Just tell him you are curious, etc. He will mention some problems they are having, and that is your oppurtunity to offer to help. If you offer to help, he then gives you the KEY that you need to even get to the old blind man near the tomb!
Second, you could either go to the lower reaches or down to the temple underground at this point (rift area) I think. The way I did it, is that I backtracked, and used the key that i now had, to unlock that door back in the sewer looking area. That door that you open, has the tomb behind it with the lich, etc. Apparently the person who started the thread, ALREADy did that area.
And he already did the underground temple---one question to you Aboredman---did you successfully HEAL the manifestation, and then have that raspy voiced god type dood give you the first half of the rift device?
I believe he gives you one half, and the other half, you get in the level with elder orbs, gauths, and beholders. The way you get down there is this: Go back to the area you met Gaal. Now go forward, into that room that has a path in a circle around the area. On one side of the room, west side i believe, is a big, ugly, gaping, scary looking, red hole in the ground. That is actually the ENTRANCE to the 'lower reaches'. Move your cursor around a bit, and you will see the stair mouse pointer appear. I didn't realize this was an entrance the first time i saw it, maybe you overlooked it as well.
go down into the lower reaches, it looks like you are in somebody's intestines or something, kill everything, and in one of the round rooms, there is a container on the floor or near a wall or something, and the second piece of the rift wand or whatever , is there. It should be on the east side of the map, maybe SE corner even.
Now, since you've already killed everyone....theres not much point, though i believe if you talk to the old begger (blind?) man by the lich tomb, you may get experience, not sure. Originally, the rift wand was intended to HELP you kill the unseeing eye, you've already killed it? Well, after I killed the unseeing eye, i believe i went back down to the underground temple where the avatar is that gave you the first half of the wand. Remember you made a promise to return the wand after you used it to destroy the unseeing eye! Go back to the avatar, return wand, get more experience.
Now, you may be thinking, keep the wand and use it to kill bodhi or something, but remember there were all kinds of warnings not to let the wand leave the area and take it to the surface. I have no idea what happens if you try to take the rift wand. Or try to use it above ground. If you want to find out.....its your game.
Oh, one more note----you say you CAN'T enter lower reach? I think if you kill the unseeing eye and gaal, you can no longer go down there. Cuz first time there, i killed everything first, and then i think the lower reaches was off limits......
So yes, you may have to reload...
go double check though, maybe you just didn't move your cursor over the right area to get down that hole thingy?

Yeah - I know that you need to talk to Gaal first time - but as I understood,he(aboredman) must already have done this otherwise IIRC he couldn't get acces to the rift/temple area - what I ment (proberly a little unclear) was that the second time in the cult area he shouldn't take to Gaal but the blind begger in the lich area - and he will hook you up with the guy that gives you acces to the lower areas (Goul-areas and beholder-area)
I've never killed the Beholder before getting the second part of the riftdevice - so if you can go down and get it afterwards I don't know.
Okay - hope I made myself cleare
