I'm soloing a beastmaster and it is REALLYhard. Not geing able to use metal weapons and stuff is really crappy. It's fun to try to overcome all his weaknesses.

Why not play a spellcaster but don't "over-rest"? I.e. don't rest untill your character is tired or you *really* need to. I haven't tried to play solo myself but it seems that most who play solo with a spellcaster rest awful lot. Those who think it's too easy might try playing a spellcaster but according to the story, i.e. most of the time there is a sense of urgency - no time to rest. That should be tougher.

I have noticed that way of playing increased the difficulty level for me.

Other than that, why not try a plain thief of your choice? (no dual class)

Or set all your stats to the minimum in character creation. How's that for anti-powergaming?

Problem is, though, that if you shoot yourself in the foot enough times, you'll tend to use more cheese just to make it through the game. If you're playing a weakling, would you not use the Shield of Balduran or the Cloak of Mirroring when facing Beholders?

Of course you should go for a bard. I'd recommed a Blade, if you want a kit.

hrm.

Try soloing a berserker maybe? be a bitch with no magic eh? and no reloads, no deaths. And no importing in a full set of equipment, and no cheapo tacticts to get 2 million gold at the start.

And set time limit for finishing the game. To discourage resting for 2 weeks everytime you take damage , lol 'rest until healed' can mean a week if you have taken 35 damage.

Bet you can't do that.

It's one thing to solo a character using exploits, and cheats ---like using shadowkeeper to set your guy up with unlimited gold , full set of the best armor, best weapons, etc., and also reloading every 5 minutes. But i wonder if you could do it with no deaths, no reloads, and no use of equipment or gold you didn't earn with your newb character?

Go for a multiclass. With the new XP limits, you can gain very respectable levels in 2 or even 3 classes. Go for a fighter/mage/thief - best of all worlds. Your advantage is your flexibility, and your disadvantage is your ultimate lack of high-level power.

I have not played ToB, so maybe somebody else out there can answer this - do you get multiple special abilities if you have multiple classes?

Or try a cleric - seems like nobody solos with a cleric.

Soloing a sorceror is nice but it becomes boring in the end.
u usually always do the same thing when u fight any battle so not much variation in soloing a sorceror.

But solo-ing a cleric what an idea, it think it is great cast a lot of skeleton warriors. (u can get more then a mage or sorceror)
u don't have any problem with hurting your party members when u cast Holy Smight or Blade Barrier.
For real power try solo an Ranger/Cleric i play one with an party but i don't really need it, my Ranger/Cleric does almost all of the work.

sorcerers are powerful and very easy to clear dungeons with. with staff of the magi and cloak of mirroring, no spell can even touch you. and with web/cloudkill i killed dragons, twisted rune pretty easy. the best thing is that you dont have to memorize anything, so you can really use the most important spells more often than a regular mage. ex:skulltrap

hehe, if you havnt installed ToB yet, then the Wizard Slayer should be a nice challenge... no healing potion (Removed in ToB). Can use any of the good amulets, girdles and so on... that should be a nice challenge!!

wizard slayer dual to thief at level 14 is what I'm doing right now. it's pretty hard right now, but I'm sure it will get a LOT easier after "use any item". just make sure int is decent so you can use good spell scrolls and wands later on

Is it more fun soloing rather than playing with a full party. I would think you get more exp since it is not split among six people, so you get high levels early. Im in the underdark right now with a full party. should i start over and solo? it sounds fun. what class and race should i be for soloing my first time. thanks

L just finish your game :)
and most comments I have read on the subject suggest you play a regular, single-player game, with NPC's your first time through, because if you do a solo or self-created game, you miss out on MUCH of the story line, from NPC's in your party---interraction of your party members, romances, NPC quests! Also, you need to be thoroughly seasoned in all forms of combat before you will know enough to play a solo game. And really---they KEY to being able to play a solo game, is not having the right character---it's your PRIOR knowledge of everything that's going to happen! meaning, you can't really solo the game on your first try through, you'd get surprised by some battle and get caught without your buffs or the proper spells ready to cast and you'd get killed way too often and spend 99% of your time reloading and dying.

The reason that you can solo the game is because you KNOW exactly what to expect around that corner! So you can prepare for it. You know what protection spells you need, you know what battle tactics you need to use! You know where the hidden loot is that you need to go further in the game! etc, etc.

Just enjoy the rest of your game. Then solo. And to make it really interesting do a no-reload, no death, no exploits solo game.

I'm personally soloing a multi-class fighter/mage/cleric because I removed the experience cap, and a multi-class is actually the most powerful class in a solo game with no exp cap. just they start out slow....
