Eye of the Tiger strangeness

When I start the brawl with Tolub, I get in the first shot from my barbarian, and then Tolub declares that he has beaten me - without him even throwing a punch! I'm playing with the 2nd Atari patch, and I've had this quest work fine in previous games. Any ideas?

Does he brand you as a cheater? If that's the case, that is a known bug w/ the 2nd official patch.

I'm not sure if the Co8 solves this or not. Unfortunately, zhuge and nomad_wanderer aren't always here to answer questions, and the Co8 patch fix lists seem to give no listing of fixing this, so I don't know what to say.

nomad did say in a previous thread that two different copies of Bertram appear, which for me they did. Anways, if you talk to one of them, one of them supposedly disappears. Unfortunately, that didn't really fix the case of the Tolub bug.

Honestly, I don't know what to say.

No, there's no accusation of cheating - and it happens whether I have magical buff spells on or not. It goes like this:
[dialogue- agree to fight]
combat mode begins
I attack - hit, 12 damage
[dialogue begins - "I beat you, laddie..."]

Very strange. Not a big deal, since it degenerates into a lethal fight immediately after.
