Okay - before I start, I have Throne of Bhaal installed and the current Baldurdash super-fix pack installed. None of the enhancements though - just the bugfix pack.
Okay. I'm dualling a kensai mage at level 13. I would -like- to be able to drop everyone from my party in order to scribe scrolls, but a walkthrough I read said that that will break off a romance. The only party members I'm concerned about at the moment are Jaheira and Aerie.
Jaheira:
I'm not in a romance with her - I already came to the point where I had to choose, and I chose Aerie. However, -after- I picked Aerie, I still got a couple of steps further in the Harper Pin quest - specifically, Revianne showed up and then I got ONE visit from Dermin. That wasn't -that- long ago, so I'm -guessing- Dermin will be showing up again soon - but I don't know. Previously, I thought that choosing Aerie would stop the Harper quest altogether, but apparently not? And since it does seem to be continuing, is dropping her in order to scribe spells going to cut it off? Oddly, when I experimentally dropped her, she complained that we -had- to get to the Harper hold as soon as possible, and she'd meet me there - but the last thing that happened was her telling Dermin that she renounced her position as a harper. Weird.
Aerie:
Simple. I'm in a romance with her. It really hasn't gone beyond flirting and telling her I like her yet - maybe 4 or 5 conversations after having to choose between her and Jaheira. When I experimentally kicked her from the party, her response was rather mild - mainly just a "Will you come to the Circus and visit me?" What I'm wondering is if there's a certain point where it's still okay to drop her and the romance can resume after picking her up again - or if it'll be dead no matter what.
In both cases - is there any way to restore the romance/quest if I drop and then bring them back in, or, alternately, is there any way to keep them from sucking up all the exp while I'm scribing scrolls? I tried my bright idea of putting them in an inn in the Promenade, going to the very far end of the promenade and scribing there (hoping far distance would have an effect), but nope...
Thanks much for any help possible! If worst comes to worst, I'm keeping the quest/romance plots going, and I guess I'll just have to share the exp and be a really gimpy mage for a while longer than I intended.

Dropping romance from party
Afaik if you kick out your romance interest the romance should be dead but there can be some exceptions depending if the romance is effectivly started; if you still haven't arrived to the point of making a choice between the two is maybe possible that the romance isn't effectively started, so you could be safe.
Anyway the Harper quest isn't related to the romance but to the fact of having Jaheira in the party (is her personal quest) so you can finish it even if you are not romancing her.
Spoiler
Also remember that during the quest Jaheira will leave you for short time, so you can use that period to scribe your spells safely.
Anyway if you look at the veriables of the romance: 1 means romance not active (yet), 2 romance active, 3 romance finished, you should be able to reactive a screwed romance by resetting the right number.
Anyway I would keep the two lady and kick the others, because being multiclass they would benefit a lot from the extra exp., specially Jaheira that needs a lot of exp. to pass the 3000000 exp lev. in druid class to really shine as a druid.

Okay, so what you seem to be telling me is that unless I use console commands (which I don't want to do), then I really can't get the Aerie romance back, since I'm well past the point of having to choose. I'm inclined to agree cause I took my experiment back and picked Aerie back up again and her attitude was "Why not? I have nothing better to do", which somehow didn't rub me as the response of a girl dying to flirt with me again (call me crazy).
Good to know that the Harper quest isn't romance related. But. Will it be aborted by me kicking Jaheira temporarily out of the party?
I take your point about the extra exp being good for multiclass characters, but at the same time, their mooching 130,000 xp at this particular point in time is a lot less important to me than getting my kensai class reactivated or at least just getting a good mage level going, since I'm about to head off to Chapter 4, not looking forward to some of those solo battles as a gimpy mage, ugh. If I can get away with just keeping Aerie in the group and dropping Jaheira, then taking Jaheira back and continuing the Harper quest, that's what I'll do.
But if dropping her is going to kill off the harper pin quest, then I'll just have to deal with it, and keep them both in the party, and have a -real- interesting time trying to survive Chapter 4 with a level 8ish mage (albeit with a lot of hit points).

Well, duh. I feel silly. The easy answer to my problem at least as far as Jaheira was concerned was rest out in the woods for a few days until Dermin showed up his 2nd time, then rest again and poof, she's gone
And I can keep her out for as long as I need to - which definetly includes doing the planar sphere quest so I can get all the nice spells there (I couldn't do it before dualling because I wanted to get it as my stronghold).
Splitting the exp with -just- Aerie, and before the planar sphere, I got to low level 10 just scribing each spell I had once (no erasing and rescribing), and letting -her- scribe whatever was left over, which wasn't much but every bit helps. Other than fireball, I hadn't had her scribe anything prior to that, so it worked out pretty well
