Dropping romance from party

Okay - before I start, I have Throne of Bhaal installed and the current Baldurdash super-fix pack installed. None of the enhancements though - just the bugfix pack.
Okay. I'm dualling a kensai mage at level 13. I would -like- to be able to drop everyone from my party in order to scribe scrolls, but a walkthrough I read said that that will break off a romance. The only party members I'm concerned about at the moment are Jaheira and Aerie.
Jaheira:
I'm not in a romance with her - I already came to the point where I had to choose, and I chose Aerie. However, -after- I picked Aerie, I still got a couple of steps further in the Harper Pin quest - specifically, Revianne showed up and then I got ONE visit from Dermin. That wasn't -that- long ago, so I'm -guessing- Dermin will be showing up again soon - but I don't know. Previously, I thought that choosing Aerie would stop the Harper quest altogether, but apparently not? And since it does seem to be continuing, is dropping her in order to scribe spells going to cut it off? Oddly, when I experimentally dropped her, she complained that we -had- to get to the Harper hold as soon as possible, and she'd meet me there - but the last thing that happened was her telling Dermin that she renounced her position as a harper. Weird.
Aerie:
Simple. I'm in a romance with her. It really hasn't gone beyond flirting and telling her I like her yet - maybe 4 or 5 conversations after having to choose between her and Jaheira. When I experimentally kicked her from the party, her response was rather mild - mainly just a "Will you come to the Circus and visit me?" What I'm wondering is if there's a certain point where it's still okay to drop her and the romance can resume after picking her up again - or if it'll be dead no matter what.
In both cases - is there any way to restore the romance/quest if I drop and then bring them back in, or, alternately, is there any way to keep them from sucking up all the exp while I'm scribing scrolls? I tried my bright idea of putting them in an inn in the Promenade, going to the very far end of the promenade and scribing there (hoping far distance would have an effect), but nope...
Thanks much for any help possible! If worst comes to worst, I'm keeping the quest/romance plots going, and I guess I'll just have to share the exp and be a really gimpy mage for a while longer than I intended.
