SPOILER - Fighting the Cult [TotSC]

Post by Mikhail »

I've arrived at the Cult, that worships the demon captured in the dagger you retrieved from Durlag's Tower. The first few fights were fairly easy, but I just can't kill the demon. Even if I manage to kill all the cultists around him without wasting a single Dispell Magic to get rid of the nasty effects of his death gaze (so I have three of them left for the fight with the demon itself), my party is still butchered. Does anyone have any tips for this battle? My party is composed of Mikhail (paladin), Jaheira (fighter/druid), Khalid (fighter), Minsc (ranger), Imoen (thief) and Dynaheir (Invoker). All help will be greatly appreciated, as this is getting downright frustrating and spoiling my appreciation for the game.

This is the hardest fight of the game mate. Have a look at the strategy I wrote here (http://www.gamebanshee.com/baldursgate/ ... sbeard.php) and see if it helps.

Basically, you need to kill the cultists first, then kill Aec'Letec. The difficulty is Aec'Letec's Death Gaze. The best way to defend against this is to up the saves of anyone who is going to be facing the demon. As such, Potions of Invulnerability and Potions of Power are musts. Protection from Evil is also vital.

If you have found the boots of speed, send a fighter (Khalid or Minsc) to kill the cultists, whilst everyone else dogpiles on Aec'Letec. You must kill the cultists before you kill the demon however!

Good luck!

Thank you for your reply. :) I've tried it a few times, but so far without luck. How many hit points does Aec'Letec have, anyway?

Want to play realy cheasy.
Buff up your thief, and buy as many potions of invisibility as possible (or the ring), go down alone, and backstab everyone!
I do not have the touch, nor do I have the power.

:D I'd rather play it a bit more realistic (insofar BG can be realistic ;) ). I just tried concentrating all my attacks on Aec'Letec right after killing the female mage, just to figure out how much the beast can actually take. It turned out, I couldn't even kill him then; I wasted an entire wand of summoning to keep him at bay, but eventually he just tore my party members apart. Is he vulnerable to any particular kind of weaponry?

IIRC the spell 'dispel magic' is essential to survive the demon's death gaze.

Its really a simple fight, use every usefull potion you have, and every magic spell (that is defensive) like haste!!

then get everyone to use melee wepeons and STORM them!

Remember the potions all of the cultist guards had, like 10 Heroism potions - well make everyone down one.

Its really simple just smash smash smash, win.

Everyone? You do recall only warrior classes and multi classes can use the Heroism potions right?

But yeah it is pretty hard fight. The dispel magic removes buffs anyway. I recall just summoning a lot of critters and using the best magical range ammo I had to take him down.

I'm not sure how many hps Aec'Letec has, it is over 100 though. He's not vulnerable to any particular kind of weapons, but +3 weapons are the best to use at this stage, of which you should have a couple.

Dispel Magic will remove the effects of the demon's gaze, too. Memorise a stack of these!

Cheers,

i did this just recently. my tactics was to have my thief run off and backstab everyone as much as possible , while my main char (beefy fighter) fought 1v1 with the beast and everyone else was equipped with magical arrows to do as much damage as possible. explosive arrows helped. took a few attempts though.

Warrior - drink some potions: Oil of Speed, Heroism, Invulnerability, Storm Giant Strength, and Magic Shielding(!) and cast Draw Upon Holy Might. No need other priest spellz. Possible bug: drinkin Invulnerability sometimes you'll die (*hick*). After this you have 25 godly str and +50% res to all forms of magical damage. No need other NPCs, leave them on the store. First, kill the sorceress (you have >25dmg/hit). Aec'letec cast Silence 15' radius, death gaze /!save vs death!/ and vampiric touch. Then slain all cult guards and the tanarii. No pain no gain. If u think drink extra healing potions.
The key is Magic Shielding in this battle.

cast haste and defensive harmony (if druids can cast it, i cant remember)
go down the strairs
cast outlikes sphere on the demon (dynaheir can do this)

then proceed to butcher all the cultists. You should be dont before the sphere wears off.
positions your fighting types around the demon, and hack him to pieces once the spell wears off.

cast dispel magic if necisary

IIRC - Potion of Mirror Eyes will protect against the Death Gaze from the demon.
Once that factor is eleminated - the fight becomes loads easier in my view :)
(just keep your eye on duration - and watch your Dispells cause they will remove the protection)
