Soloing as a Cavalier
Currently im soloing as a cavalier (got sick of my other party who is up to the end of the underdark, so dont tell me any spoilers after when you return the eggs to adalon), anyone got any tips for fighting vampires?? up till now i have slaughtered everything ive come up against (except the shadow dragon).oh btw im lvl 13, and i was really p*ssed off when i saw that i couldnt wear the amulet of power
I played a cavalier before aswell...funny thing was I could choose any alignment upon creation. Now that I have reinstalled the game I cannot. I had 100% magic resistant while wearing the human skin. Back to the topic...you should maybe get the mace of disruption for vampire fighting.

I use Protection from Undead Scrolls on my mages - there's nothing more annoying than losing spells to level drain. One of my fighters carries the Daystar for its special ability alone. Both of these should work for a solo cavalier.

There's nothing a little poison couldn't cure...
What happened here was the gradual habituation of the people, ... to receiving decisions deliberated in secret; to believing that the situation was so complicated that the government had to act on information which the people could not understand, or so dangerous that, even if he people could understand it, it could not be released because of national security.

Protection from Undead is only available as scrolls. Fortunately, they're useable by any class.

If you side with the vampires you can get the mace without any effort but I guess that is not an option at this stage. Prot from undead is only available as a scroll, priests cannot learn from scrolls. You can get the mace while prot from undead and then go about and get it upgraded and return once it is done.

Have you slaughtered firkraag? If you have Carsomyr +5, then no problem. I does depened on proficiencies. I'm useing a party right now, and against vampires I have Minsc with the mace of disurption and I had keldorn with Carsomyr. For big groups, I have Keldorn switch to Daystar, Sunray them, and finish them of with Carsomyr again. Although Daystar DOES do double damage against undead.
If nothing we do matters, then all that matters is what we do.
I believe there are also scrolls of Negative Plane Protection that anyone can use. (Once a paladin is high enough level he can cast it on himself of course.)
I agree the solution is to enter Bohdi's lair with Protection from Undead, grab the mace, get it upgraded, then come back. You could also just kill all the vampires while you're at it, but you need to be off Protection from Undead for Bohdi to work correctly and if you're not Neg Plane Protected she's really tough.

No, the only way to get more is to use the cheats.

According to Bioware, it is a bug that the paladins cant use the amulet of power, as any spellcaster should be able too. Get the patch from baldurdash, heres link: http://members.home.net/mrkevvy .

Sigurd, I'd like to see Anomen (with whatever) take on Keldorn with Carsomyr. Put *that* up your cleric and smoke it

get the mace of disruption & then the Real illithium (not the Fake. Get Cromwell to combine them into the +2 Mace of Disruption which can kill undead in one hit plus give protection from level Drain. Make sure your Cavalier has double Proficiency in mace and you have a veritable Vampire killing machine.
Oh I nearly forgot. give him a Helm of Charm protection as well so the vampires will not charm him.

Problem: only thing that can help your paladin is the mace of disruption +2 (forget about the amulet of power - there are better amulets out there, besides you can just switch to the mace when fighting vamps)
Solution1: play an undead hunter. They are immune to level drain. But have drawbacks (personally, I found the cavalier's bonus vs dragons & demons invaluable, given there are so many!).
Solution2: Sneak in and get the mace +1, using a ring of invisibility or sanctuary (can paladins cast this priest spell?) then upgrade it.
What do you think?

A paladin wouldn't try to fool the artist, but he might recognize that using the ilithium for a statue when it could be used to slay undead was a waste.Originally posted by sigurd:
From a roleplaying perspctive a paladin would never cheat the artist anyway.
You should get Anomen, he can easily kill the vampires with amulet of power.
THIS is why clerics rules and Paladins suck
According to the latest from Kevin, Paladins and Rangers were supposed to be able to use the Amulet and his latest patch allows them to (and stops the monk from wearing it).
@Gruntboy: Better amulets? I can only think of one that is even arguably better (Kaligula's) and I still prefer Amulet of Power.
I'd like to see a Paladin defeat Sarevok in Hell solo. I tried it for the hell of it with my protaganist whom is also a paladin. Level 17 with haste, Carsomyr, 21 strength, -6 AC, protection from evil I got wasted. I even opened with a 46 pt crit hit and a 28 pt hit. Sarevok must have at least 300 hps and he hits for 15-20 quite often. He was hitting me more times then missing. When I retreated back to my party I had about 10% life left and Sarevok had just gotten past the barely injured mark.
Zartuul
Sarevok has around 500 hps and a low thac0. I think it would be really unfair on the undead hunter if paladins can use the amulet of power. It says in the description no fighters and no thiefs and to me a paladin is more a fighter than a spellcaster.
The greenstone amulet that is dropped from mordenkainens sword is atleast as good as the amulet of power.
