I am about to begin SoA again. After starting it twice and getting through much of it I have lost my saves (don't ask).

The new collector's edition that is out now which contains both Shadows of Amn and Throne of Bhaal should run just fine without. I have this one and have experienced no problems with XP. Enjoy.

I have the normal version with home and it works fine as well

You will need the official patch, otherwise you won't be able to talk to alot of people. So just get the official patch and baldurdash.
