Hello,
is there an item in BG2/ToB that bumps up xp? In Icewind Dale there's the How To Be An Adventurer books. The reason I ask is that I started BG2 with a Ranger as my character but would like to change him to a Thief (Swashbuckler). I've used Shadowkeeper to change him over but in the game he's down as a fighter not a Thief/Rogue. An I'm not sure if he has the abilities he should have if he'd started at level 1 as a thief...I hope this makes sense? I thought of starting him at level 1 and using someting like How To Be An Adventurer multiple times to bump him up to the right level of Swashbuckler! Am I making something fairly straight forward complicated by doing this????

spoilers & cheats, beware.
Try shadowkeeper again. Change only his class thief and his kit to swashy. Then, if you dont want to use the shadowkeeper for xp, as I think you dont, just edit your Baldur.ini file, add the line cheats=1 under game options and press control space during game. on the menu type
CLUAConsole:SetCurrentXP("xxxxx")
exactly as shown above. Keep the quotes, exchange the xxxxx to the number of xp points you desire.
If you want to play soa with a level 1 swashy, solo, i'll be a bit harder than you might want, Imo, but not impossible, since you'll level up quicker than light.
I dont think you are messing things, you just dont know how to use SK.
Good luck, and enjoy!

Flesh to stone ain't permanent, it seems.
When you say Fighter/Thief, do you mean dual or multi? Because once you dual, it difficult to turn back ...
As for multi, it should be simple. Make sure class is Thief, and set your level to zero (there's three slots for level - set all three to zero). To 'play fair' you should also get rid of your weapon proficiencies, any thief skills you might have already, and set your hitpoints to 1 (you can't set it to zero).
