Joining Bodhi - Your offer is intriguing

Post by Deadalready »

Spoilers for those who are new

Anyway I'm considering joining the evil side Bodhi for reaching Brynlaw or Spellhold and I'm trying to weigh up the good and bad, I never actually tried this path properly and I can't remember what items I got the last time I tried taking this path.

The things I know and remember in particular are when you side with the shadow thieves is that you get the Amulet of Power and a +2 Ring, which make up for the "Several" (more like two) items of reimbursement. That and at the end of the chapter you meet Saemon and get shipped off.

Now I'm wondering in particular about two or three things. The last time I tried the evilish path I think Bodhi didn't actually give me any items after I paid her but it was possible to extract the items I wanted from the hides of shadow thieves. Additionally if I'm not mistaken there's also the "Ring of Djinn Summoning" you can only get if you go against the guild and an extra "Boots of Speed" off Maevar without Arkanis Gath on your back.

The thing is when I complete the evil way of the game will I meet Saemon Havarian and get the chance to get the "Silver Blade" and the chance to visit the Shaguin city?

If so isn't the evil path more rewarding in terms of items in the end?

in the end the differences between chosing the shadow thieves or bodhi is almost nothing, when you chose bodhi you will get 2 easy quests and then whipe out the whole shadow thieves, you won't get any boots of speed(meavar doesn't have any, i think you meant renal?) but i do believe there is a ring of djinni summoning that you wouldn't get if you'd become a shadow thief. You do get the amulet of power and the ring of protection +2, and in the enc seamon will bring you to the island, and from there it will go exactly the same (except that the shadow thieves won't be there anymore when you take on bodhi for the last time.

ow contains spoilers by the way :p

When siding with Bodhi, you'll meet Saemon and also get the chance to get the silver blade and travel to Fish city.

Ok I meant Renal Bloodscalp should drop Boots of Speed. By the way what the hell are Blighters Boots? I've been trying to find them in databases but I can't seem to find it.

ahahah.

A blighter is like another term for the swear word regarding children who's parents were not married when the child was conveived. (the B word... sorry I can't just spell it out, the whole word ban thing)

I can't beleive you searched for blighter. - I thought it was a fairly common term.

so you can't talk about b***ard swords like foebane and purifier?

anyway... I think the confusion is coming in because the spoiler at http://www.gamebanshee.com/baldursgatei ... /boots.php says you get speed boots from Renal Bloodscalp. Is that correct? Can you only get them in certain circumstances (ex: pickpocketing him after taking his quests)? Or is the spoiler flawed?

No, Renal has a sweet pair of boots that are easy to get early on. Every time I've played through, except the first (when mistakes are abound), I have sided with Bodhi. Not only is the mace of disruption bad-ace, but the shadow thieves are lame. Extremely lame. Thusly, they die.

I usually start off by getting on MaeVars good side, promptly slaughtering him after the necessary ingratiations, receiving my kudos from Renal, siding with Bodhi, then going back to smack Renal to get those tasty boots (as Arkanis is no longer super sneaky kill you outright man).

I would say this is a spoiler, but all this information is provided to you pretty much up front anyway (betraying the betrayer, etc) except for the fact that you get the cool mace early on, which you would have received eventually anyway.
Right you are, Ken.

so Renal has nice boots, but they're not speed boots?

What exactly are they? What do they give you?

Oh, sorry. Yeah, they're boots of speed. I never would've figured out that he had them, either, as you have to kill him before you are sent to take out Aran by Bodhi, but after you've sided with her (and after the MaeVar business if you're into that, as well). So a big thanks to all you mass murderers out there who have figured out these fun spots for phat lewt.

I did, however, figure out that Ribald had that spiffy ring on my own. It was a whimsical period, probably my second time through the game, where I decided I was *far* more deserving of any Athkatlian's belongings than they were.

Ahem, anyway, to stay consistent with the thread's title, when siding with Bodhi your bonuses are:

-Not helping lame-o shadow thieves (they're quite lame)
-Watching Bodhi writhe around as she restrains herself from playing with your entrails (Woo!)
-Ring of Djinni summoning (mekka lekka hi mekka hieni...)
-Mace of Disruption much earlier on (Yes! SMASH!)
-AAAAAND Celeritous boots of precipitated alacrity

bon apetit :)
Right you are, Ken.

Just remember siding with Bodhi gives you one less ally later on and reduces your party member choices.

P.S. I read once that if you side with Bodhi you couldn't get Imoen. Is this true?

Imoen

She'll rejoin you no matter what you do... After all, she's your sister...

Keldorn WILL leave, and I think Mazzy and Anomen will...

I think you can kick your teammates out, join her, then get them back.

Not all. Some party NPCs have a limited number of times you can let them go and bring them back, before they tell you to take a hike.

Another factor affecting this is how your party's reputation compares to their ideal choice.

so all things considered, Bodhi is the way to go then?

you'll get more out of it all in all?
I have Minsk, Jaheira, Viconia, Korgan and Jan in my party, will they all tolerate siding with the vampires?
I assume it's less hassle to kill the Shadow thieves than the vampires since you need magical weapons to kill the vampires? does it result in less XP if I kill the lame thieves rather than the powerful vampires?

thanks, Alexa

Yes. Keldorn jumps ship, but I don't think anybody else does.

Can't say I've ever measured the experience between the two, but come on--it's not as though you're lacking experience at any point in the game. If you want to maximize each game event, pull out your favorite walkthrough, and just follow it along like a schematic. ;) You're supposed to have fun!
