Masquerade and Penalties

The first time I lpayed I racked up one or 2 masquerade violations without any trouble... but now with my 2nd character, every time I hit 2 masquerade violations I get a plague of vampire hunters all over me! I'm thinking it's due to my clan or possibly the length of time I had the 2nd violation. My Brujah only had to lay the smack on 1 vampire hunter but my toreador has had to pummel a legion of them... any clues?

So far I haven't hit more then 2 violations, maybe when I play thru as a nos or a tremere I'll try that out.
