AC problem with Paladin PC

Post by sparhawk_tr »

I've a problem about my Ac. My paladin PC wears Red Dragon Scale and Ring of Protection at the same time. I don't know how but you can see in picture below. (paladin cavalier.jpg) When i was playing SoA this is not a problem but when i began to ToB i can't change my armour because if i do it then can't suit it back because of ring of protection.
Possible Spoiler:

My paladin had a dexterity of 7 until late parts of SoA but lost 1 point of dexterity in Hell. And as you know it is a low dexterity even for a paladin.

I'm suffering from int also. I lost 1 point just before the fight with my own soul. And it is 5 by now. (From 6 to 5).

So i have a fragile and dumb paladin. I can't increase my AC from -4. My paladin has largest xp percent in the party. But Minsc is like a rising sun with crom faeyr and black razor and some new mace.

Anyway the point is my Paladin PC's AC. I want him to be a tough guy.
And not dumb also.

How can i rise my dex and int(not related with AC but important)?

Or is there any way to increase them by a dex ring? or int ring?

(There is plenty of them in IWD2 but not in BG2)

Thank you for your suggestions.

Your Paladin, or any other npc for that matter, can't wear both magical rings and magical armor (those with a +2 enchantment for example). Since your Red Dragon scales do not count as enchantet, you can use rings. However, should you change your armor, you can't use rings anymore. So you have to make a choice; wear great rings, but not the best armor, or wear the best armor, but don't use rings. ;)

Edit: In SoA you could find the Gauntlets of Dexterity, which would raise your dexterity to 18, but I'm guessing you don't have those with you now, do you?

Hmmmm... I've never encountered such a gauntlet like that. But now i'm using a very usefull gauntlets, it is a hard decision i guess. I think i have to find a ring. That will much more helpfull for me.

Thanks. I'm waiting other suggestions.

Gauntlets of dex are the only item I can think of that will raise your dex. During SoA, you can get them from (spoiler - highlight to read) the ghoul lord's area on the way to unseeing eye. (end spoiler)

If you happened to have the Big Metal Unit (a ridiculous piece of armor forged from a number of... odd... items, including one from the Friendly Arm Inn in BG1) that would help your AC a bit. The Shakti figurine is also a nice choice for a short-term AC boost. See http://www.gamebanshee.com/baldursgatei ... aneous.php for more info on those items.

If you want a slight bonus to your AC, white dragon scale gives better AC than red dragon scale, and there are a few rings (gaxx, earth control) and cloaks (sewers) that give you AC bonuses but can still be worn with a ring/cloak of protection.

So it seems your main problem is with AC, right?

Wearing the gloves of dexterity will not only give you 18 dexterity, but also bring your AC down to -8! That's an extra 4 off your current AC killing two birds with one stone. Whatever gloves you are wearing (I can't tell from the picture... maybe gauntlets of weapons extertise?) are not worth that trade off, in my opinion.

There is no ring that increases your dexterity or intelligence to any where close to that level. A few rare items may increase one of those stats by one or so, but those are usually weapons that keep it high while equipped, and when you switch over to Carsomyr, it will drop back down. There are potions that will give a temporary boost to your dex and int, however, if you want something permanent, Shadow Keeper is the only way to permanently increase those statistics (search here for many threads on downloading and using SK, as it's called).

Good luck!

Get some potions of Agility.

The age old question of how to best defend thyself.

Ultimately the best suggestion I can provide for a slow dumb Paladin is to get into as much Plate as possible and forget about the ring of protection. Get the ring of Gaxx and Cloak of Mirroring and you are safe from about everything thrown at you.

Otherwise:

If Gaunlets of Dexterity are not an option I would suggest getting the Blessed Bracers via Cespenar. That will be a bonus in the gaunlet/glove area.

You might want to consider Boots of Avoidance to at least boost you in certain areas.

Memorize Draw upon Holy Might. This will raise strenght and dexterity by 1 per 3 lvls which will help AC somewhat.
