Does speechcraft really make a differnce int he game? will you get more secrets etc?
Stealth seems a pain to lvl, ic ant figure out how it lvls exactly, as a theifish person is it good to have it in major/minor, or does it matter?
I know athletics lvls quickly if you run, so is it good to have in major/minor? and what about acrobatics?
Basically trying to find out if any of these skills are good to have in major/minor and if they'll hinder/help me in the long run.
Guilds.
How many can you be in?
do you have to be a blade for the story to progress?
whats the advatage to being in the fighter or mages guild? is one better?

Speechcraft is well worth it as a major skill IMO. Others will differ, but I find it is one of those skills in which it is very nice to have a starting boost. You will likely need to do a lot of taunting, admiring and bribing in your game, all of which are governed by speechcraft. And yes, you are much more likely to obtain information if somebody likes you.
The other skills/abilities you mention are fairly quick and easy to level up in, especially athletics and acrobatics. Equally, stealth/sneak can be fairly easily learned, especially in combination with the spells chameleon and/or invisibility.
You can join as many guilds as you want to, but do be aware that some have conflicts which have to be worked around. However, you can only join one Great House.
You must be a Blade in order for the the *main quest* to progress, but you don't have to join them until you feel ready to, there are plenty of other things to keep you occupied, if you so choose.
You can join both the fighter and mage guilds, as far as I recall there are no conflicts between them either. As far as which is better goes, well it really depends on your character and playing style.
In the beginning game it is very helpful to be a member of both because this means you can raid their supply chests which are located in most of their guild houses.
btw, be sure to check the sites listed in the Morrowind Yellowpages, a sticky at the top of the Morrowind Forum page, there are some great resources in it. The search engine built into Game Banshee is also an invaluable tool
Good luck!
