sun stone ritual

my current char is on the ritual of the gifts quest
i get to the sun stone and go to halls of penumbra (?)
BUT the big grahl i'm supposed to kill, keeps running away
AND THEN he disappears while i fighting the little ones

i can't find him anywhere
i've tried leaving and re-entering the cave, no luck
i've also tried killed other big grahls and getting their eyes, no luck

this didn't happen last time and the save before that is gone

SO my question is does he come out at a specfic time or something OR am i just screwed?
any help is appreciated

Well, there would be several solutions, one of which would be looking around for little side passages (I got lost soooooo many times from missing passages in the walls), another would be to reload and follow him when he runs, and a third would be to reload and use a paralyzing weapon to keep him from running, and finally you could cast a rally creature spell to make him more inclined to attack.

missing passages? like ones not on the map?

he's gone, completely, as in not in the cave
it's like he fell through the floor or something
since i have xbox, i cannot simply rewrite him in and my save is gone

%$#@!, it was a good character too! guess i have to start over
