Diner Shootout (spoilers)

Post by StinkyPete »

When you get suckered into the shootout with the 4 thugs in the diner, is there any way to avoid a criminal violation by killing them?

I managed to shoot all 4 of them, then the phone was ringing. When I walked over to answer it, police started yelling at me to come out with my hands up...drop the gun...etc.

And of course the second I step out, there are cops shooting at me. I ran into the sewers and there were cops in the sewers!

So, how do I avoid a criminal violation? You have to kill those 4 guys, and doing it with melee wasn't getting the job done. I had to use the pistol.

Thx in advance...

You are probably too close to the cook. You are supposed to be able to hide from the cops, try crouching by the phones and maybe you eventually you will get the all clear message. You can do the fight without the message as I've used melee, firearms and powers to get through.

Well, this might be a silly question, but did you wait for them to start shooting at you? If you're the one who starts the fight that might be the reason for the violation. If they start the fight, and it's still a violation, then it's probably a bug. Just run and hide for a while. The cops will leave you alone eventually....

Spoiler:

When you enter, go to the far end of the counter and crouch. The thugs will start attacking, 1 or 2 will come towards you, spreading them out. The cook will cower so he won't see you doing any tricks.
Use combat and/or disciplines to take out the thugs. Kill the shotgun wielding one asap, the rest use .38s or knives. If you are low on blood or health, take a sip of the cook, though I prefer draining the last thug dry.
Answer the ringing phone, then get out of there quickly to avoid the cops. No violations.

This one doesn't really strike me so much as a bug as a nice slice of realism...after all, cops don't appreciate self-defense or vigilante justice, it threatens their job security :D

It's really not a problem though, they're pretty easy to hide from and give up fast (again, another slice of realism?) but they are not worth attacking as I doubt they would drop anything other than a .38 or a baton. I've never tried massacring the officers...does it make you lose humanity points?

Well... they don't like it... If you happen to watch the news, they mention the shootout at the diner and mention you as killing them in self defense, although they regard you as a vigilante and disaprove your deeds :)
If you want to know more about your deeds, just watch the news... but don't expect to hear about the ones that imply killing vampires... you'll hear about the Gallery Noir affair though :) (if you did the quest)
Hope it makes the game more pleasant to you :D

made it

Well, this time around, I didn't stand up to shoot at all, stayed crouched, even when collecting the items from the bodies...and then answered the phone crouched as well. On my way out, the sirens started, but I just ran out and there weren't cops outside when I got there.

I think what I may have done before was accidentally pull out my gun *again* after the thugs were dead. So the cook saw it and called the cops or something.

Either way...onward and upward.
