Taxi Crash!

Post by Sectoid101 »

Possible Spoiler

Allright... That mission where you have to get to the taxi from the other side of Santa Monica.... Well when I talk to the driver I get a crash to desktop.

I think the main reason no one responded is that they have no idea what you mean. Do you mean *SPOILERS, LOOK AWAY*

after Lacroix sicks the Blood Hunt on you?
or when you blow up the warehouse and get the taxi for the first time?

Either way, this is the first time I've heard of this bug... you can feel proud that you're one one of the only to get this one. :p Any error messages? Check your logfile... whenever Vampire crashes, it leaves a .txt in the main game directory. Tell us what that says. What graphics card are you running? How much RAM? What's your pagefile size? Are you using the unofficial patch (which you should be using if you're not)? Have you installed latest graphics drivers?

Just a tip: the more info you give us off the bat, the faster we can help you. We're not clarivoyent...

You cleared up the "where at" part, but have you tried any of the other ideas I gave? Add "Install official patch" to the list... remember, more info is your friend when you're trying to get a fix for something like this.

aaaagh, the same thing has just happened to me.

I applied the 1.2 patch this am, then went on to play. I survived the blood hunt, talked to the taxi driver, chose option 1 (just drive) and instead of going to the map screen it CTD'd.

Below crashlog:

Well, I'm at a loss. I was experimenting for about an hour today to try and find a console command to help you (something along the lines of changelevel taxi... since SPOILER: You don't go to the map screen, but instead have a conversation with the taxi driver., but I don't have the level names in front of me, so I couldn't find the right one to change to.) That's one option, assuming you can find the levelnames, you could experiment with that.

The other options... Your memory looks kinda full at that point. Before you talk to him, type "flush" in the console, no quotes. That'll free up your memory, and maybe get you past that.

Finally, though I hate to say it... reinstall the game. Backup your entire \Vampire\SAVE directory, and then paste it into your reinstalled version. I'm sorry man, but that's the bet I can do. :(

Thanks for your help, I'll give those a try. Gotta love it when a patch actually breaks the game even more!

Hah, I doubt that that's the case. The game just was badly put together in the first place. At least we haven't reached the Ubisoft/Crytek debacle that was FarCry 1.2. Our patch doesn't kill your game, their's did. :p

I have the same problem

I sent a message to Activision tech support with the log and a save game file to see if they could figure it out. I was also having problems with things floating around, (like in my haven my computer desk disappeared, the computer was floating and I could no longer use it.) I updated to version 1.2 but this would not resolve it, neither would restoring an old save game and playing to that part again.

Maybe we have something in common?

I have a Dell Precision 360 workstation
Intel P4 3.0GHz
2GB RAM
ATI RADEON 9550
SoundMAX Integrated Digital Audio
(I can tell you anything else about it, but I'm not sure it matters)

Running DirectX 9.0c

I am playing the game as a Ventrue male, and I had cheated some with the console commands in the beginning. Not sure if that makes a difference or not.

Let me know if anything is similar!

Thanks,
Shawn

PS - Mine is a little different than one of the posters. When I get to the cab and press "E" to initiate conversation with the cab driver is when I crash to desktop. I don't even get asked "Where to?"

Could it be related to the bug people have been mentioning that is caused by listening to the mp3 dialogs in windows media player? Aparently the little bit of "path" that the player adds to each mp3 ruins it for the game.

Personally I have listened to a few files but I have my media player set up so that it dosent "add" things to its play list unless I ask it to so I havent experienced any crashes. I actually made it through the entire game with only 2 crashes that took me out into windows... one overflow trying to pick up ammo really fast from Romero's box before starting his quest and one time I was trying to enter my santa monica haven before going to the ship with the sarcophagus. Of course I never used the console at all (the game feels relatively easy, usually when I lose a battle it's due to my slow marchine gumming things up) and well I didint start playing the game untill a couple of weeks back so the patch was out and all that.

To reiterate from a previous post, a code 5 access violation is a file-level "access denied" error. It shouldn't be happening, and the most likely fix is to shut your computer down and re-start it.

I had the same problem . CTD immediatly when i talked to the cabdriver .

I tryed a couple of times to get past this "basicly unofficial patching version 3.2 and reinstalling and using the same safegame when trying" . that didn´t work .

Then i did put it to rest for a couple of months and tryed again .
I did some updates in the meantime .
:- added 1GB RAM Memory
- installed the latest nvidia drivers 93.71
- installed 3.6 patch
- Replayed the game and completed the quest "the hunted hunter" .

Then when i got to the part when i talked to Tung there was a conversation about the "asian vampire" stalking Knox . This wasn´t part of my previous safe from a couple of months ago .

Anyway , i talked to the cabdriver and SUCCES . I hope this helps for you guy´s . I´m VERY glad it helped for me :-)
