Help! I realize this is not the easiest kind of problem on which to give advice (not like a "where do I go?" or "how do I find the widget?" kind of thing) but....I badly, *badly* need help in offing that insufferably smug, ascot-wearing horned-toad.
I'm playing a Ventrue (a somewhat desperate Ventrue at this point). My melee and ranged-combat are each maxed-out. I've tried it using two Fortitudes and a Blood Buff, and I *still* can't kill 'im. I've had him down considerably past half his hit-points, but *I* always croak first.
Part of the problem is something that's been an annoyance before, but never this much of a nuisance. It's simply not practical to change weapons in the midst of combat, especially when this fella's "minions" are chomping on you, and even more, when he can disappear in the time it takes you to switch from firearms to melee. Hell, maybe I'm just too slow, period, hmm?
By the way, if one was going to take him on with firearms initially, any suggestions about which one works best? I've the .38, the shotgun, the 9mm and the machine-pistol. The shotgun seemed attractive for its high lethality, but has anyone another take on it? (My melee weapon of choice is the fire-ax; usually does a *really* nice job, but against this guy....<SIGH>)
I'd greatly appreciate any help anybody might be able to offer. If I can't get past this sucker, my vamping-career is likely to end ignominiously, well short of the endgame.
Thanks.
Andrei Must Die....I *Hope*

To change weapons out of real time press the inventory key and the action will pause. If you are in the basement of kings way fighting andrei, concentrate on him and ignore the monsters, if you kill them he just summons more. Try to anticipate where he is going to reappear so you have more time to bang on him.
I had much better luck whaling on him with the fire ax. Also if you don't have any blood packs to replenish your health you probably need to reload and get some.

Fortitude, Presence, Blood Bluff and the knife. I carved him a new one. Took a long time though and lots of blood. As soon as you hit the <i> for the inventory the game pauses, in case you didn't know, allowing you to replenish blood if need be and if you've stocked up from the blood bank. There is another cool way to get blood but that would be a spoiler(not a cheat, a spoiler), but I don't know if you want that so I will wait for your request. Try to disregard the little fledglings that he spawns as much as you can and just chase around to his spawn points. Definitely use Presence though man, that will cause a decrease in his stats(not as much as regular vampy's cause he's a boss) but more importantly it will lower the stats of his two legged little buggers. Good luck.

EDIT: Yeah what he said (to rtwitty)

Suicide works very well with bosses, inflicting 50+ of damage while keeping enemies at distance. Just have a decend amount of bloodpacks in your inventory and you can defeat every boss with this tactic (even the "embraced overdoped gorilla with a big sword" ) and you don't have to switch from melee to ranged weapons.
I believe only Ventrue, Tremere and Malkavian can use this technique.

Hhhmm if you have helped Mercurio in the beginning, bringing that goofball some painkiller and you haven't rat on him about his failure to the prince then you have meet him before getting on the Elisabeth Dane, he told you he will set you up, meaning for that cheap ass **** that he'll propose you for sale from this point on - at his place - the best melee weapon in the game the katana ! I've just hacked the tzimice to pieces with it
In both encounters with Andrei there is a semi safe location to attack from.
The basement of King's Way:
There is a table across the room across from the bottom of the stairs. It is very difficult for the headrunners to attack you there (though they can get the occaisonal hit in), so they usually back off. Andrei will travel to several locations randomly even if not attacked, two of those locations are at each end of that table. Easy target for any ranged weapon, and in possible range for the fire axe or other long handled melee weapon. Once Andrei is dispatched then take care of the two headrunners.
Second encounter with Andrei:
In the basement of the Sabbat Haven once you go halfway across the floor in the pit Andrei makes his appearance. Go back to the debris below the door you entered and slide back up it. I have found backing up is best. Though Andrei can jump up there, he does not do it often. You can wait for him to jump up and hit him a few times, then rest while he runs around for a while. Or use ranged weapons and disciplines to hurt him while he jumps around in the pit. This is not a cheat or exploit, since you have to go back that way once he is dead.

If you have picked up the charms and equipment along the way(fireaxe, bloodstar, light leathers and mummywrap fetish being the most important), the fight should be a piece of cake. Make sure that autorefreshing disciplines is on in your settings(turning on bloodbuff costs three blood, but refreshing only one. If you have bloodstar, you can maintain BB pretty impressive time). Turn on bloodbuff. As long as you get the first strike in, the headrunners are easy to whack. So just keep on doing it until Andrei deigns to teleport somewhere near you. Then beat him about head and shoulders until he teleports away. Eliminate any excess headrunners. Rinse. Repeat. You are in no hurry. The only thing here to hurt you are the headrunners, and they are not really dangerous, unless you let them to swarm you.
Oh, and after defeating Andrei, SAVE! You can get stuck to the cave floor that leads to the next area. You may find that most frustrating, at least if you have had trouble with the battle.

I'll try to provide a helpful ranged method.
I've the .38, the shotgun, the 9mm and the machine-pistol.
Hmm... first, I'm a bit confused on your weapon array. By 9mm I'll assume you mean the Brokk- correct me if I'm wrong. Well, the Brokk is definitely a good weapon against Andrei and the Headhunters- the large clip size makes it particularly useful, as you'll find yourself suffering less of the "crappy moments to reload" situations of other weapons. If only you had the Colt Anaconda, that would be an excellent choice as well. I'm not sure your Ranged feat is high enough, but with my character, Anaconda + Auspex meant a single-shot kill on the Headhunters. It gives better damage output than the shotgun, and is DEFINITELY more accurate, especially at long range. And since getting up close to Andrei before he dies is quite a feat, you're going to be thankful for a long-range way to take him down. Also, don't be afraid to discipline the hell out of the guy. The fridge a floor up from you contains a few blood packs, and if this guy is providing a lot of trouble, don't hesitate to use them.
Also, out of curiousity- I don't remember him ever referring to himself as Andrei at all. The only way I know of his name is the "Killed Andrei" message you get after you finally defeat him, which it seems you haven't done. Did I miss something where it's revealed earlier that his name is Andrei?
