Sorcerers

Post by magusg »

Are they any good? I've almost finsihed the game, and I'm wondering if starting over with a sorcerer is a good idea. I started one just to look at the kind of spells and stuff he gets, but he looked pretty puny. Of course, he was only level 7, so mages would look puny too. Do they get much better at high levels?

Bad Idea, they can´t learn new spells from scrolls. And if you make a bad spell choise on Level up, you are stuck whit that spell.
The Game more USELESS kit.

Yes that could be true, but if you have already played with a mage you know what spells you need.PS the more spell power you have the better off you are.

I couldn't disagree more with Drakron. Sorcerer is definitely worth it. Since you know which spells you need (and if you have played the game once) you can give it a try. At high levels they are awesome. No more "damned, how many of that or this spell should I memorize, will I need this or that" etc.
Sorxerers, played the right way, are very effective. Still, not very powerfull at the early stages, but kicks ass at the later, much, much better than any mage.

I havta agree Sorcerers Kick butt, if you can endure them being a little weak when they start... heres a tip take the enchanted weapon skill when you first level then make 2 enchanted maces for minsc to dual...He can basically then kill everything in the dungeon by himself.

I actually started the game as a thief...I don't remember which kit...but I got bored with her and I started again as a sorceress (yes, let's be PC). Wow, she kicks so much ass...even from the beginning. If you just get Melf's Minute Meteors at the beginning...she has a pretty decent weapon for a while...it also helps to kill that bitchy lich. All you need to do is cast that one priest spell that lowers thaco and make sure she's protected from his stupid magic...and just cast the spell over and over again and peg him with meteors. You should be able to hit him over like 60 times...and kill him all by yourself...if you give her cloudkill and/or ice storm...she can easily kill dragons by herself...though I think it's better to just use the wand.

Hey, those at the Alamo became ledgends...

Just thought I'd point that out. I agree with all the others, though. If you've played the game with a mage, you probably know what spells you want. Sorcerors are awesome.

As the Army of Sorcerers Overwhelms my position, I the Last of Mages cast my last spell opening a gate to the lower planes to bring a army of Demons, the Sorcerers Army run in fear since none had a Protecion from evil. But alas it´s too late for me, I die on the field of honor defending my beliefs...
At least all the Sorcerers will have a real bad day.

Sorceress may be more powerful then mages. But this is RPG so i dont want to play with a character which knows a few spells. I like variations.

Drakron Du´Dark very good story. they couldnt live much after you. Image

And one thing for these damn sorcerer haters... The sorcerer is probably not the only spell caster you'll have in your line up. So if there are some spells you did forget to choose at a curtain level, you probably have other members to complement this.. I mean shit, you dont do everything with your main
unless your planning on soloing. And if you know your spells, you'll choose the most usable once... so in some ways the sorcerers have a huge advantage.

I got a great little topic going here don't I... but back to the point, I thank everyone for their opinion. As I consider myself an expert on the ways of mages, considering I successfully maintain four in my party (including my 19 INT know-all-spells PC), I know quite well the in's and out's of particular spells. But one more question... they gain new spells when they level up, right? I mean, are you confined to the five or so 1st level spells you pick in the beginning, for instance? Or do you get more choices for 1st level spells in later level ups?
And in answer to fallout, I think nishruu could still steal a sorcerer's spells, because they are not just stealing memorized spells away, but actually draining your magic away. So I would assume this would work on sorcerers as well.

Yes you get only 5 spells that you can cast 6 times each. When you level up you gain spells for levels till you get to 5 spells in each level.
(Lev 1, 5 sp 6 cast each ;Lev 2, 5 sp 6 cast each ;Lev 3, 4 sp 4 cast each)
Now say you level up
(Lev 1, 5 sp 6 cast each ;Lev 2, 5 sp 6 cast each ;Lev 3, 5 sp 5 cast each)

Now before everybody starts saying you gain this here and you gain that there this is just an example to give you an idea.

Thanks Weasel. I think I'll give the sorcerer class a shot. But the spell decisions...never had to decide which spells to have and not have before, at least for my 19 INT main character.

No problem.

On another note I wouldn't recommend this class to a first time player. It does take some planing and knowledge of magic to play this class.
