Problem with Edwin/Mae'var Quest

Post by Qwinn »

I'm doing the Mae'var quest in Chapter 6 at the moment, and I'm having a show-stopper of a problem.

I went to Mae'var, did his quest to retrieve the Talos necklace, come back and he sends me to Edwin. My problem is that when I go to Edwin, instead of asking me to go kill Rayic Gethras, he's giving me a spiel about knowing why I'm there, tells me about Mae'var cooperating with the "Night Knives", and then offering to join up with me. If I turn him down, I can no longer speak to him afterwards ("Edwin has nothing to say to you"). No matter what I try, I can't get him to send me to kill Rayic Gethras and continue the quest. I've never gotten this before.

I am playing with several mods. The ones that I think are most likely to be involved are:

Quest Pack (additional Shadow Thieves content)
Rogue Rebalancing
Ease-of-Use (multi-stronghold)

I do -not- have the Expanded Thief Stronghold mod installed.

As far as the Quest Pack goes, I have been sent a message to go talk to Inspector Brega, but did not go to him yet because I wanted to finish Renal's quest first.

For the record, I was assigned the quest in Chapter 3. I was given the letter to Mae'var by Renal back then, but I did not actually start doing the quest until Chapter 6. No idea if it's relevant, but I'm trying to report anything I've done that may be unusual, since I've not seen this issue reported before.

Can anyone help?

Just to check, I reloaded an old saved game (using the same mod install) from Chapter 3, before I left for Brynnlaw. Edwin responded as he's supposed to, arguing with Minsc and Jaheira, etc. and asking me to kill Rayic. So whatever's causing it, it does seem to have something to do with it being in Chapter 6.

Can't you clua-kill Edwin and then clua-concole him back in? Maybe that will fix the error.

How, exactly, did you get the Mae'var quest in Ch 6? I was under the impression that Renal Bloodscalp did not appear after you choose between Bodhi and Aran in Ch 3. If you started this quest in Ch 2 then left it for later, I am pretty sure it can't be completed.

The specific problem you are have might be that, after Ch 3 the global variables get set in a way that causes Edwin to behave as if the earlier quests have already been completed. Since you have an earlier save, you might want to compare the various global settings in both versions. But messing around with global variables can be tricky.

I'm pretty sure I've left it for chapter 6 before in unmodded games without a problem. Renal's never disappeared on me, even when I've sided with Aran quite early, or even after having come back from the Underdark. He's still there now, in fact, in the game I'm having a problem with. It's Edwin that's the problem.

I agree that it's probably a result of a global variable being set to indicate that that quest is complete in Chapter 6 (I just think it may be a mod responsible for it). While I do know enough to check and change the value of a global setting -if- I know the name of the variable beforehand, I have no reference for what variables there are or how to go around randomly checking them. I'll be happy to try what you suggest if you can tell me how I would find out what the names of the variables are.
