Prestige classes (could be Spoiler)

Post by Matija »

Okay, this is my first run through the KOTOR 2, so another question.
When you can switch to Prestige Class? I got the opportunity to take prestige class at level 22 of Jedi Guardian. From what i gathered I need to have Kriea with me when I level...
Currently I'm wrappin' up some quests before I go for Dantooine to meet the Jedi (I completed all planets more or less). How much of game do I have left?

to begin, prestige class starts at level 15, so once you hit that you should switch, and yeah kreia is the one to activate. But as to what you got left, well after dantooine you fight on the revanger (ship) then its off to malachor for fun in the sun, and thats that. both those places are small and quick. So basically you are done.

How good are prestige classes anyway? As I said, I went for Guardian / Sith Lord combination and well, I don't feel any change since the char is high level.

you shouldn't have gotten the sith lord presitge class if you started out as a guardian. u see, every class is linked. guardians should develop into Jedi Weapon Masters (LS)/Sith Marauders (DS), sentinels should develop into Jedi Watchman(LS)/Sith Assassin(DS), and consulars should develop into Jedi Masters(LS)/Sith Lords(DS). the reason for this should be familiar to anyone who has RPG experience: rarely is "cross-classing" more advantageous than following 1 path. for example, if you started out as a guardian, and become a jedi master/sith lord, generally, your wisdom will not be very high, which is essential to masters and lords because they depend more on their powers, whereas guardians are more physically capable. so you'd end up with a character that still might be good enough to beat the game, but you'll have no advantages, so basically you have nullified the two classes you chose to start and finish with. if this is getting confusing, just read the manual that came with the game, it's all diagrammed and described in there (pg21).

that's not entirely true.....my light side guardian/weapon master could've easily prestiged into a jedi master. At creation, he started with a 14 in wisdom, not putting any level up points into wisdom, he had a 29 in wisdom when I finished the game at level 27. I didn't have any problem stunning sith lords (or sion for that matter). I wore the circlet of saresh (+5 wis), with ossus keeper robes (+4 wis), the mental boost package (+1 wis), along with the pc crystal at +5 wis.

now granted I wouldn't have been able to do 300 damage in one master crit strike ;) but hey.....each to his own I say.
Gentlemen. You can't fight in here. This is the War Room!

very true. thats why i said that "generally" it is most beneficial. for players experienced enough in these types of games, cross-classing is very easy to do and sometimes, if done right, even an advantage. when you get good enough, you can start making all kinds of rules or challenges for yourself to make the gameplay harder. for example, in kotor I, after beating it twice on each side, i played a game where i only leveled up the 1 mandatory time on the Endar Spire, until i became a jedi. so i had a level 2 character, and level 18 jedi, instead of say level 8 or 9 character and level 10 jedi. made the game very challenging, because you have so few vitality points, any serious hit would kill you. but it was nice leveling up like 6 times in a row once you got to dantioone.

How to prestige

I'm currently lv 18, and i can't prestige class. I've talked to Kreia, but nothing happens. I am currently waiting to level up because someone said that is what you need to do in order to prestige. Could you give me the exact time to talk to Kreia and a general guideline to the conversation, thx

Definate Spoilers:

Very simply, when you reach level 15 *and* have a significant light/dark side leaning talk to Kreia. She will begin with something like "Did you feel it?" from which you have a conversation about Visas's master and how you must be ready to face him. Then you get your choice of the three prestige classes available to your alignment.

If you have already completed all 4 planets (NS, Onderon 2x, Korriban and Dantooine) you cannot get a prestige class anymore, all Kreia says is to go to Dantooine and meet the Masters before she will talk to you.
