Arrakis, Dune, Desert Planet...

Post by jopperm2 »

I've been thinking about RP in the world of Dune and wondering if anyone has ever played a Dune RPG... Pegasus(I think) was supposed to make one, but it got nixed IIRC. I know there was a GURPS book, but I don't know if it was authorized by SJG or not. Just wondering what people's experience is.

Aww.. Come one, you don't seem to be particularly un-diverse?? Is that a word even?? Oh well.. Now go write me an RPG based on dune and you can be diverse too. :D

There was a Dune RPG, published by Last Unicorn Games, but it was a limited edition print, and not well representated throughout the roleplaying world. This site (http://www.darkholmekeep.net/dune/main.cfm) has more information (as well as some extracts).

Hmm, I thought WotC had the rights, and there is some speculation around various Dune fansites about a d20 Dune RPG, but that is as yet unconfirmed.

It must be last unicorn that I was thinking of, not Pegasus. I thought that game was canned though.. I really want an RPG with DUne, but I don't think that d20 is the best format for it. It probably is the easiest one to get done though.

d20 is not a good format for any "modern" style or sci-fi style of games, in my opinion.

If you really want to play a Dune game, why not grab the GURPS core books and whip up a version of the world yourself? I'm sure you could do that. Although I'd be careful on how many Paul Atriedes were in the game... ;)

I agree.. d20 is not so good for modern.. It works okay in the adaptation of CoC though.. I could make my own GURPS version, I'm really good with GURPS. I want something hardbound though with pretty art and all of that. A friend and I are currently working on a board game that is based on Dune though.. It should be fun..
