1. After playing about halfway I got sick of annoying NPC chatter and crummy skills, so I made an all custom group. Did most of it with 5 players to take in the needed NPC's for most quests and this included an assassin. Now I'm just about to the asylum and I'm going to have to decide if I want to drop my lvl. 17 assassin who does 6x backstab damage (last time for 136 damage in one hit) to keep Imoen. I already have a mage, cleric, and druid/fighter so I really think I have plenty of magic users. But I'd like to hear what you "power players" have to say, especially the ones in favor of keeping my thief.
2. This time through, I didn't take Jaheira in the beginning, and aside from the early Harpers run in I've had no sign of them or her. I don't really care about her, but is there any way for me to get into the Harpers Hall for that nice little battle without her?
Thanks in advance.
Imoen or Custom Thief? No second chance for Jaheira?

1. You mentioned 5 players in your group, and 1 open slot for NPC's. Since you think about ditching one of your selfmade characters, who is filling the NPC slot?
If you say goodbye to Imoen in the Asylum, she'll find her way to Athlatka on her own. I didn't take her along on my first run.
2. Not that I'm aware of - you really need Jaheira to enter. But you can ditch her only once; if you ditch her again, she'll be gone for good.

Sorry, I could have been clearer... after running most of the NPC quests and not finding Jaheira I made a 6th NPC to fill the slot, my druid/fighter. So I have...
15th lvl Monk (me)
15th lvl Cleric
14th lvl Berserker
13th lvl Mage
my druid/fighter (forget her lvls)
and my 17th lvl thief
I plan on using the XP cap remover if I get to that point, so I'm not worried about topping anyone out.
Hope that helps in the equation.

Ah, I see your point. Yes, to enter the Harper Hold you'll have to use Jaheira in your party ... which means you must lose one of your own characters forever (I believe exporting & importing later causes some troubles, but you could try that). I really would like it if your own characters would simply go to a place where you can later pick them up again, like the Copper Coronet or so. I know that if they'd do that, you could create hundreds of characters and dump them into the game ... but I'm sure they could come up with a viable solution that prevents that.
As for Imoen: I recommend you save before taking her in your party. Check her stats relative to the character you dump. If you consider she isn't worth the trouble, just load the game, and tell her to find her own way out. Although the plot would indicate so, she's not a character you MUST have in your party, you can simply do without her.
When I played the first time, I had a party of four imported characters, and place for two NPC's. Now I've started a single player game.
