Can't even........

Post by Angelus45 »

Ok I installed the game and installed the patch and updated everything but when I go to play the game my screen turns off and I just hear all the stuff going on. What is wrong? I mean I am running a GeForce4 Ti 4600. I have messed with all of the controls turning stuff down but all I get still is a black screen with the sound going on still. I did switch it to run on 640 x 480 screen resolution and that let me watch all the company logos even if it was very messed up. But then it goes black at the screen so what am I missing?

Thanks

I'm using the Nvidia Ti 4600 also.. I haven't had that happen, although at times upon loading a new section of the game, like when I taxi to a different city, the game will minimize. When I maximize it I get a "L O A D I N G" prompt text in the center of a blank screen... all this while music background and sounds play.

It eventually reloads after about a minute.

I'm running with 1 gig of ram, how much is in your box?

Running a ti4600 as well, only have 512mb ram too so it must not be your video card or ram, (unless youre lower than 512mb, which I highly doubt). Do you have the newest drivers at http://www.nvidia.com as well as the newest Directx 9.0c drivers?

Had the same problem cudn't see the game running ....cudonly hear voices. Should most certainly be a problem with the RAM. I had 384 before but u need to have atleast 512 RAM. I have 768 RAM now and the game runs fine.

It's that bloody patch!!!
I installed the patch to get around the society of Leopold crash, but then i got the exact same problem as described above, so i had to re-install the entire game and go through it a second time!

So if you want to play the game you have to re-install without the patch.
The thing is you will only be able to play through about 80 percent of the game unless you can get the console to work ( which i can't!)
I'm so serious it's comical!

Possible solution to the dark screen problem (not intuitive): Turn down your contrast video setting. It makes a bigger difference than you might believe.

And how do you do that exactly?
Sorry but my computer skills aren't exactly incredible. :p

That, I can't tell you exactly. The video card that offered me that choice is on a shelf two meters from here. The setting might be on your monitor, in your software monitor settings, in your video card settings, or in your desktop settings. You just have to look for two things: Gamma to maximum, Contrast to minimum. That will give you the extreme. Then just adjust them back and forth until you get something workable. Remember where the sliders are, because sometimes when you do a max/min like this, the display will go totally white, and you have the opposite problem. If you lose yourself, Escape will usually restore you to the previous condition, and Safe Mode will allow you to recover from anything totally berserk.

warning driver beware

I found my computer crashing, not just to desktop, but total re-start. on start up, it was taking a number of goes to get to desktop. that is damn annoying, I can say.

seems that the latest patch had caused a driver problem. downloaded lastest drivers from Nvidia and haven't crashed since.

the game works fine patched - I heartily recommend downloading both the official patch and the subsequent one - it fixes a number of annoying aspects of the game. just make sure can re-install drivers over it.

This old chestnut!

Hi, this is a common problem. I had it myself. Nothing to do with patches or turning brightness up or down.
Sadly I can't remember how I fixed it, it was months ago when the game came out. I'm pretty sure it was something in the windows control panel, but I got the answer from these forums so have a good search because its there. A lot of us had it happen.

Have u tried forcing the game to play at a lower refresh rate? The same thing happened to me, so I went into the display properties, and under the advanced settings tab, changed the refresh rate overides. I set it to 60hz at 1024x768 and the game worked well enough.

Got the same right here. got an GeForce 6600 GT XFX Extreme Gamer Edition, I can play HL2 with high but whenever i try to play V:TM:B I get this problem: the screen goes black and on it I read: Attention 143 HZ. I don't know why it does this because I played it before and it never happened. I already tried to install new drivers but it didn't fix the problem, neither did installing the patches or not installing the patches. Plz help because V:TM:B is a great game, but if I can't play it, it's no use to me :( .

Ok, I know no how to fix the problem.
If you have the same error like I have then go install a new driver, but you have to download a Omega driver, it fixed the problem with my pc. Here's where you can find it http://www.omegadrivers.net/ . Happy gaming :D
