Help me with Slashterpiece quest

Post by Shellhead »

Jeannette sent me to slash paintings at that Gallery Noir. I scouted the place out earlier, while working some other leads, so I was quick to spot the differences when I went back. Now there is money in the cash box, and there are four paintings on display. With one exception, I can't slash them with my knife, instead a pulsing red circle appears, probably some kind of thaumaturgy ward against vampires or knives or something. Each attempt causes me to lose some blood.

The one exception is the painting of Cain killing Abel. That one I have been able to slash, at least at first, leaving visible slash marks. When I go to do one of the others (and fail) and then come back to this one, the slash marks are gone. Sometimes it's also been protected with that red circle.

So how do I handle this?

Jeannette is not giving me credit for slashing the one, the guard keeps giving me a Forrest Gump-style saying, and I don't have a clue who or what in Santa Monica can help me with this problem. I've looked in the pawnshop, I've asked Mercurio, I've even gone back to the haunted hotel.

I get the sense that this a real bottleneck in the game. I need to make Jeanette happy so her sister will come back and take the amulet and call off the feud, so the Nosferatu will help me with the Sabbat. And from what I've read in this forum, I won't be able to leave Santa Monica until I've blown up the warehouse where the Sabbat are at.

Ahem... Your "Bottleneck" is a puzzle, and your prolly gonna hang your head in shame when I tell you the answer too, heh.

The paintings have to be slashed in the order of the story of Caines fall from grace. Even if you don't know the story, the logic of it flows pretty well. Caine Kills Able, God Curses Caine, Caine Meets Lillith, Caine Shuns Lillith.

Obviously God wouldn't curse Caine unless he did something wrong, and he can't shun lillith untill after he meets her. Killing, Cursing, Metting, Shunning. Go slash things.

I am hanging my head in shame.

The thought occured to me that these paintings told a story, but I got the order wrong. Maybe I should take another look at the Bible someday.

Don't feel bad, the Lilith story isn't in the Bible.

Heh, it's okay. First time I did it, I didn't even notice I was losing blood, and was just confused as to what they expected me to do against a ward without any thrumaturgy. I had to go out, hunt, come back and accidently stumble across the fact one of the pictures slashed okay.. And that they all slashed in the order of the story afterwards.. Before I realise what was going on.

There really should have been a hint SOMEWHERE in the game about what to do with them. While I realise that, after you've gotten it, you look back and go "Well duh"... When your doing it, there doesn't seem to be any logical, applicable reason for it all.
